I have removed the "dummy" rear window switches from the centre console and have used the adhesive to secure the control (without drilling any holes since the wire passes through the holes created by removing the switches).

The iPod can either be connected in such a way that the factory audio controls operate the iPod exclusively, or so that the iPod is used exclusively for music selection, and the factory audio controls do not work.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gentlepeople, Has anyone checked out this yet, in our interminable wait for a Dension type 996 iPod integration? http://www.2point5.com/images/996_ins.jpg Usual disclaimer, esp. as I'm in the Antipodes, a long way from the cutting edge of iPods and 996 blending. Cheers David Grainger 2003 996 Carrera 2

POST 2Original post

I have just installed the Harman Kardon Drive + Play in my car. Works great. Ordered the aux plug directly from Becker. Really easy to install. Will post pics when I can.

POST 3Original post

Hey ML... Do you have a MOST BUS based radio (2003 and later I believe)? I ask because I wasn't aware an AUX cable existed for these radios. More info if you can please?

POST 4Original post

Bos, I should have specified. I have MOST in my Cayenne but my 996 has a CDR220. Only option for MOST that I am aware is Dension.

POST 5Original post

Thanks for the follow-up! As I continue to wait for Dension...

POST 6Original post

We have a very large group buy underway now (been going on for a few months), and are a Dension distributor for this unit for Porsche vehicles ('03+). If interested, and not yet on the list, email me: name model/year bose? cd changer? nav? Info on the updates is always here :

POST 7Original post

The solution in the pic. looks precarious, like your elbow would hit it and break it. Is there a solution for pre-MOST systems that let's you keep the CD changer ( I prefer the higher quality sound )?

POST 8Original post

Found this on the Net: http://home.comcast.net/~kilsen/boxster_ipod.htm ML

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for the recent posts, but I should have been more specific; I'm looking to integrate an iPod into a MOST bus (2002MY+) with a CDR23 and thought this solution (2point5 http://www.2point5.com/ ) might have been an alternative to the long-awaited Dension product. I've emailed 2point5 for clarification and will post their response when I get it. DG

POST 11Original post

For MOST, there is the Dension unit and the NAV-TV unit. There is also another unit, due out in November, as described by rennlist member 'docsassy'. All have been discussed in the Cayenne forum recently and at great length in the past.

POST 12Original post

ML: am thinking about the H/K unit for my MY02 996 as well. Just curious...where do you place the control and display? thx in advance!

POST 13Original post

Eric, What is the status of the Dension unit and non NAV head units? I seem to recall a previous post commenting on first generation is not compatible CDR23 head units.

POST 14Original post

Would love to see pics of the final install of the Harmon option. By the way, anyone know if it is compatible with 2000 996? I just don't know what stereo set-up it comes with. Thanks.

POST 15Original post

I have removed the "dummy" rear window switches from the centre console and have used the adhesive to secure the control (without drilling any holes since the wire passes through the holes created by removing the switches). The display was secured under the radio (where the CD holders are). It might be better on the dash but I already have an aftermarket nav system and it would have been too crowded up there. I never knock the control and the location works very well. I did the whole thing myself without drilling a single hole (which was important to me). Looks pretty good (the wires are all easily hidden and the iPod is inder the passenger seat). Of course, the thing I prefer the most of to turn off the radio, open the sunroof and the windows and listen to the engine!

POST 16Original post

And of course there is the original inspiration for of all of these pre-MOST solutions. Low-Cost Porsche-iPod integration solution

POST 17Original post

ML: great idea...I was thinking about taking the CD holders out and replace it with an empty console where I can fit the display in. removing the rear window controls is a brilliant idea! thx!!! P.S. I think the group would love to see pic of your setup! 8-)

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yesterday I emailed 2point5 ( http://2point5.com ) seeking clarification on whether their product would suit my MOST-equipped 996. Here is the very interesting reply, received this morning. Do we have a viable Dension alternative at last? Who wants to go first? David, The short answer is yes. We, too have been waiting a long time for the MOST interface to be available to go along with our spec.dock models for the entire Porsche line. We did our first installation on one today, and it works flawlessly. The iPod can either be connected in such a way that the factory audio controls operate the iPod exclusively, or so that the iPod is used exclusively for music selection, and the factory audio controls do not work. Which option you would choose really depends on how fast you want the iPod operation to be (nothing beats the iPod's internal interface for speed, we've found). The only stipulation is that you have the OEM screen-based radio, which I believe was optional on your particular vehicle. The complete spec.dock package for your 996 that comes complete with the dock, illustrated installation instructions, one Apple Universal Dock Insert of your choice and domestic shipping included is $899. Hope this info helps, and please let me know if you have any other questions or would like to place an order. Thanks for your interest, and I hope to hear from you soon. POST 20Original post

For these solutions - the Denison or spec.dock - anyone know if they would be allow other aux audio inputs to work? e.g. portable xm or sirius receivers which have mini-jack outputs?
