Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, My oil pressure gauge seems to cut out intermittently. It measure 3.5 at low revs and 5 on full acceleration. Today it dropped to 0 and an oil can warning light came on saying "no service" - e.g. the gauge was not working. The gauge then came back on, and the light cancelled out. Oil level on the level on start up is full/ 1 bar down from full. No leaks on the floor. What do I need to look for?

POST 2Original post

Oil pressure sender fault most likely. Not an expensive or hard fix. A tell-tale of a fault can be a reading of above zero with ignition on, but engine off.

POST 3Original post

yup. had to swap mine 2 months ago. read 1 bar with the engine off.

POST 4Original post

I've got to do this, where are people getting their senders from? Is there an alternative to the dealership?

POST 5Original post

POST 6Original post

+1 for oil pressure sender Had the same on my previous 996 (turbo) :thumb:

POST 7Original post

I agree with the above - sender is 'usually' the issue. However, it could be two other things. 1. I'm told that, occasionally, the wire that leads to the sensor that runs through the car can sometimes get chaffed behind the front seats/over the tunnel, and can therefore intermittently cut out. 2. It can be a problem on your dash - and I think this is the problem that I have. It can actually be the connection in to the unit at the back of the instrument binnacle. Check the sender - if that fixes it then great; if not you've got two other leads. Hope that helps

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all for your advice. I will get my Indy to check out the sender first. Paul

POST 9Original post

Bought mine from Porsche because their not too expensive and someone (here?) suggested that cheap alternatives are not good.

POST 10Original post

I got mine from eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Pors...134033&hash=item23a10995eb:g:gqsAAMXQCZ1Tdg-n I don't think the OPC charge much more but it arrived quickly and saved me a trip out.
