Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Unplugging and plugging back in the power wire at the fusebox fixed the problem.
Greetings to fellow P9ers!
I just finished installing the cheapest of
Pioneer
's NEX series headunits, that I purchased for $500. I wanted to share some point on how I did it etc, in case someone inexperienced in electronics wants to tackle this at home. Before I start, here is a brief comparison on features of the NEX series. 8100 is clearly the best unit, but at $1000 on ebay/
amazon
it's too much after spending on MOST-HUR and $120 on
Pioneer
backup camera. It was down to App Radio 4, 5100 or 4100 for me. I decided to go with the 4100 unit because:
1) I did not care for Navigation; it does not work well in Azerbaijan. I would have Apple Maps with
Carplay
which sucks but gives some capability. And hopefully someday the awesome Google Maps will work on
Carplay
as well.
2) I wanted a detachable screen for security and a tillable screen to avoid glare
4) I found a unit in stock at a local installer for $500
5) App Radio 4 was $100 less, but didnt have CD/DVD/SD/AUX input capability
Now the install. With the help of great many gentlemen on P9 and CR, I have a done several mechanical repairs like thermostat/waterpump all the way to transmission drop and clutch kit replacement. But, I had not done any electrical work on the car at all, till this install. So, I was a bit worried. I purchased the MOST-HUR unit from EuroMotorSpeed, because I did not want to deal with stock optical bose amp and speaks replacement. Loi from EMS was extremely helpful. I spent a few hrs here and there studying the wiring diagram he sent with the kit, and sent him an email with all the questions. He replied quickly and confirmed what was correct and what needed to be changed. I dummy-wired the unit and tested it few times to make sure everything works.
The actual install including taking out the old unit, soldering wires, installing the new one, routing the cables for carplay, mic, back-up camera took me about 8-10 hrs. I was going very slowly and carefully. I think I plugged in the unit 5-6 times throughout the install to make sure everything still works. Here are the pictures. The job might seem not tidy enough, but it was good enough for me. I just went "Gid'r Done" style. BTW way, if anyone is thinking of installing a backup camera and is concerned about the unit switching to camera with a manual transmission, DONT BE! If you connect everything correctly as instructed, then the unit knows when you engage the reverse gear and switches; at least it did it on my unit setup (4100NEX+Pioneer camera ND BC6).

Re: CRD-24 out, Pioneer AVH-4100NEX in...on 2007 Cayman S with Bose
pictures continued...BTW, it should be obvious, the rear bumper has to be removed to route the backup camera thru the hole behind the rear license plate housing.

Nice write up and thanks for do this. It will be helpful to many.
This is on my short list of mods and I'm looking for a HU like you selected, but keeping everything else stock.
It may be too late, but your first pic is fuzzy and clarity is important when it comes to wiring. Can you take it again?
Thanks again,
Eddie

Just did my install this past weekend and the backup camera was the hardest part. Thank you for documenting the route you took, it helped a lot.

Just changed out my original CD-R 24 to a Pioneer. How do I copy this Porsche image and make my default?
Re: CRD-24 out, Pioneer AVH-4100NEX in...on 2007 Cayman S with Bose
Wanted to check with you gents to see how is the install working out for you. I am having below minor issues:
1) My mic location on the pictures I posted above sometime works, other times people cant hear me well. Maybe its the overseas calls where the connection is not so good.
2) My rear speakers are completely silent. I did set the read-fade bias before taking out the stock unit. I had read about the rear speaker problem and purchased a rear speaker wiring harness from Loi in case I end up replacing the rear speakers. Now, I need to figure out if the replacement speaker will be powered by the unit or bose-optical amp.
3) About 2 weeks ago, my unit stopped powering on. Unplugging and plugging back in the power wire at the fusebox fixed the problem.
Re: CRD-24 out, Pioneer AVH-4100NEX in...on 2007 Cayman S with Bose
1) No issue with mine so far. I installed it on the column though.
2) Rear speakers are low on mine as well. I also did the bias but my battery got pretty low during the install. That rear camera took way too long. lol
3) Only real issue I had was with the rear camera not always coming on... re-did the connect to rear light and issue went away.
Going to be the same. I highly recommend you call / email Loi @ Euromotorspeed and he can ([email removed] ) walk you through what you need to upgrade your head unit. It's dependent on if you have
Bose
or not.
Ok, you'll need the MOST-HUR system that they sell, it comes with everything you need to install a double DIN head unit, including the bezel. It's not a beginner project, I'd give it a 6 out of 10. I just did mine last month, I've installed a bunch of stereo's in cars I've owned, so if you're comfortable with it, go for it!
