They made false allegations and threats without checking their facts which resulted in them back-pedalling but stopping short of an absolute apology and without paying the legal costs I incurred.

One OPC did this to me too and played on words saying "If you put down the £10k deposit it will make you the second depositor and give you the strongest possible chance of getting an allocation." I was 8th on the list and 6 months later when I called for an update it turned out I was STILL 8th and that "Putting a deposit down doesn't change your place in the list - that would not be fair".

So what that is saying is that you pay for it in Germany, then pay another 20% VAT in the UK but then reclaim the VAT at 19% paid in Germany - thus the price in the example I used about would increase by 1%.

Solihull OPC have just called me to ask for a deposit on the GT4. I asked if the car had been officially announced and was told no but Porsche GB have told OPC's that they can take deposits. It could all be hype?
The deposit of £3000 was non negotiable.
Has anyone else been asked for a deposit?
Out of interest who called you from Solihull, no one has called me and I was told I was #1 on the list. I did offer a deposit last year but was told no need but i have bought several cars from them in the past
Not yet...
Did they say if the deposit was non-refundable? I have to say, I'm a little hesitant about placing a deposit down without any indication of price or spec.
Deposits are refundable.
One thing you should be clear about is that placing a deposit will NOT change your position on any list. E.g. If there a 5 people on a list and only two have given deposits, if the first depositor was 2nd and second depositor was 4th before they placed depositis, they will STILL be 2nd and 4th respectively.
Therefore placing a deposit does nothing but move your money, your intent is the same as a non-depositor and if they are above you in the list they will be offered a car before you.
This is the process and I have been through it with a number of OPCs. Though you may get treated differently if you are a very special customer...

Bournemouth told me the complete opposite. Karl said they had LOI's but no deposits and that if I placed a deposit, I'd jump to the top of the list and be guaranteed to get their first car.......
I asked the salesman at Solihull what had changed. His reply:
"We were told late yesterday by Porsche GB that Boxster/Cayman GTS will be discontinued very soon to make way for the GT4. Because of this our management is now allowing deposits to be taken, as this is first time Porsche has officially acknowledged the new model." 15 Jan 2015.
Porsche cannot take a deposit on a car which is NOT on the system
A dealer can take you for it though, it has nothing to do with Porsche, it will sit in the dealers bank till 4th Feb when we are told it should go on the system.
after the 4th I guess you will be removed from the loi list onto the paid deposit list and if you don't pay up you are deleted.
all places still stand as long as you pay up on the 4th I guess, but a lot of people WILL not pay up as it seems a lot of people have their names down at more than one OPC !!! (bad form) but dealers are going to want to know quite soon now who is serious.
MY OPC said they will ask for the 3k a week before the 4th and it's refundable, just to speed things up.
as come the 4th or 5th I would like to be able to place a full order on the OPC system and then it's 10% deposit.

Guys, do you think Cayman GTS prices / depreciation are going to be hit bad because of the GT4? Slightly concerned as I've got mine coming soon and a part of me thinks I should of waited for the GT4 but didn't want to commit because I didn't know price / final spec etc.

just drop at normal rate, circa 25k over 3 years I would say.

So have you 'nailed your colours to the mast' then and are definitely getting one?
If so, what swung your decision as I thought you wanted to wait for an official spec before deciding.

Really, I thought the GTS was a model in the standard range now. Was not expecting it to be discontinued. Some people on here have been quoted October build dates. I would be delighted if they did limit numbers but are Porsche special editions in danger of becoming a bit like the MX5 ones where there is always a special available of some type just with different options?

So what's the point of a deposit then LOL.
A good OPC won't ask for a deposit until the car is officially announced. Perhaps that is an aspiration!
Have read many different threads on new 911's new boxters and new caymans and people getting different information from different OPC's regarding the need for a deposit or their place on the list or even the spec of the car they are ordering I have come to the following conclusion - Porsche salesman know f
k all and will do all they can to get money out of a customer!
From my experience of ordering Porsche over the years it matters jack s
t whether you have a loi, what number you are on the list, what deposit you have paid and whether or not the OPC is Porsche owned or not. It is the DP who decides who gets a car and when.......

Too right!
I have had them back on the phone now talking through finance and GAP policies! WTF - jumping the gun a bit - which I told them politely!
From what I have been told they are winding down GTS production from March through till September for GT4 build, it will be increased again in the autumn

I think it's impossible to say until Porsche reveal the price and spec. If the GT4 is merely a GTS+ and placed close to it in price - then I expect it will hurt GTS values. If it's placed well above the "outgoing" GTS in both price and spec than it might even enhance the GTS second hand value (but if that is the case why discontinue the GTS). If, as some have speculated, the GT4 is PDK only, then I would certainly expect it to boost manual GTS prices.
But it's all speculation - and I wouldn't believe that the GTS is actually going to be discontinued as R1nur suggests until Porsche officially say so. If they were to do that surely many of those who were prepared to order a GTS for delivery towards the end of the year would cancel their order and wait for a GT4 instead.

NO one has ever said that, if anything it's manual only !!!

Yes, this is the exact reason I cancelled my order and bought an R instead. I was ordering in a paint-to-sample and my invoice was £70k on the nose after discount with a delivery of "May, maybe June".
Then the GT4 rumours came along and suddenly "The GT4 won't be here till 2016 Sir, so don't worry about depreciation on your £70k GTS" soon became in my mind a £70k car delivered next Summer merely weeks before GT4's arrive.......

Not on this forum perhaps, but elsewhere - in autoexpress only a week ago, for example. I'd be absolutely astonished if it were manual only. I know many feel very strongly about a manual option, but the majority of actual buyers choose PDK. If the Porsche Approved list is anything to go by around 3 times as many 981 cayman buyers choose PDK over manual

But this is likely to be rather special & a lot of fun.
Chances are the GT4 will have no affect whatsoever on the depreciation curve of the GTS.........different car, different production numbers and different audience......

You can't take what's in the mags seriously. Car has been saying that the GT4 will be a twin turbo with 450bhp. I don't think anybody has ever really believed this other than Car.
I think it will be manual only. This will be Porsche responding to criticism of the GT3 being PDK-only. And they won't care about selling tons of them. Cayman doesn't sell by the bucket load anyway. It will be a car aimed at being fun, a car for driving pleasure and most of all a car for enthusiasts. It also means a point of differentiation to the GT3! I can almost hear AP now
Bang on, Geneva showing of Gt4 cayman alongside GT3RS. Cayman GT4 to be: 3.4 manual only, 385bhp, new induction system, 4.2 sec to 60, base price £65k, c/s option, the leaked black test car is"It" low production numbers. Announced 4th Feb when online configurator will go live. Deliveries July. New hot Boxster will be positioned between Gts and Gt4 outputs and not a la Spyder we all love due to perceived need for better roof.
Me personally underwhelmed having speculatively ordered this potentially dream car 6 years ago. Frustration has finally got the better of me and felt compelled to break cover. Anyone want to bid me for my no.1 OPC slot? Damn it I've waited this long I'll probably have it anyway!!

Ordered as alluded to because it was obviously eventually to be built!
Knowledge confidentially extracted from PGB Reading. Questioning my own integrity now?! Sheltering behind my acute disappointment of the missed target by Porsche/Preuninger. I forgot to mention the first mule/ incarnation of Gt4 was a fire breathing 3.6 400 bhp plus "ring buster" that eclipsed the GT 3. Clearly product positioning got the better of the mighty talented and I guess incredibly frustrated Herr Preuninger. Classic Dumbing Down!!

It's funny you can't really trust car dealerships. Saying that, the one where I'm (hopefully getting one) said I was the first person to put in a LOI. However, they also said if any of their better customers wanted a car they would jump me in the queue. I guess this happens at every OPC, but at least this one told me. Well they rang me up in December saying I was no longer first after couple of their better customers were also interested, but said that I would definitely be allocated a car and expect a call on the 9th of February to be asked for a 3k deposit.
No money paid as yet.
Another OPC wanted £500 just to register a LOI

I see - thanks for the update
Well my OPC hasn't asked for a deposit yet, and said they wouldn't until production and spec was confirmed...
Jan is a slow month for most dealers - maybe taking a few deposits helps their cashflow..??
If true what I am reading most manufacturers build the best they can but porsche build to a market and to me the gt4 sounds to me and as said before like a market special!
And if true hence the original 3.6 engine rumour! But maybe we are in for a surprise but I would not hold my breath!

Only trying to share what I believe to be genuine information. Speculative order/loi WAS lodged 6 years ago in anticipation of the "hot" Cayman that became the "R". I didn't buy and kept gt3.
Such mildly offensive comment is why I read and don' post on forums. I too hope we are in for a nice surprise!! In the meantime, Cheerio.
If the Gt3RS does have a 'completely new engine' ( I know, we've heard it all before) then it's probably for homologation purposes which may make it less likely that the GT4 is a potential platform for a motorsport project. An indication will be whether it has a dry sump or not. I hope that it has.

Does a big spoiler make it look less like a Toyota MR2 in your eyes?

Confirm I have been told 3.6 (no 3.8 sorry) 400hp.
What you describe is a little disappointing as GT4.
Mmm can't believe you ordered it 6 yrs ago.
Cannot see for one moment Porsche producing a one off engine for the GT4. They don't have a 3.6 litre flat six. It wouldn't make any sense. The cost would be astronomical. A more highly tuned 3.4 likely, or maybe God forbid the first of the rumoured turbo flat fours. One things for sure though performance wise it won't be allowed to come close to the GT3, in a straight line and certainly not round the 'Ring.
The problem is salesmen generally is they know next to nothing, they are mostly full of sh*t. Rather than being honest and say they don't know they come out with guesses, much as we do here. A dealer principal told me once that they learn about new models or upgrades from the press and forums and generally hear officially only a couiple of weeks before launch, sometimes even only days.

Cayman already has dry sump? :/
It doesn't. Porsche confused the issue by referring to the design of the non-Motorsports engine as "integrated dry-sump", but in reality it is nothing more than a wet-sump system.
Of the water-cooled era, only the GT1-based engines and the 991 GT3 have true dry-sump systems.
I'll eat my helmet if it's manual only. I can't really see any reason why they wouldn't offer both manual and auto, assuming there is worldwide demand for both (there appears to be similar demand for manuals in the US as in the UK for example).
But then I can't see why they didn't offer the GT3 as a manual also, unless there is some obscure technical reason. The turbo 911s only come as PDK now also, but they probably appeal to a slightly different market.

I offered yes, but then they told me you got there first and I don't do sloppy seconds.

So you are lucky enough to be allocated a GT4. You find it desperately disappointing to drive but are then somehow prevented from selling by some kind of contractual obligation to Porsche. Or maybe your financial circumstances change and you have to sell? It's not practical.
My dealer at least was, I believe, quite proper in his allocation of slots for the car. They allocated based upon history within the brand and locality to the dealership.

I get the locality to dealership rationale but struggling with the brand history piece. What about those people for whom this is their first car or first car in a while? They have to buy a different model just to build up a brand history before being allowed to buy a GT4 (or any Gt model it seems)? This sounds like a carbon copy of how the art world works and to be honest, it's a crap, elitist and unfair way of doing business.
If someone wanted to maximize their chances of buying a GT4 then an early conversation and LOI with their local OPC was a good first step. I did this about 4-5 months ago and have been told that I "should " get a car and it could be one of the first batch at the dealership. I hope this is still the case and that someone with brand history hasn't bumped me down. I specifically asked my OPC if this would happen and he was very clear that they would go by LOI timing and deposit with no favouritism based on brand history. Not sure I believe it but if it's not true and I do get leapfrogged then building brand history with Porsche will be the furthest thing from my mind!
I think it's very fair that a customer who has historically supported the brand gets preferential treatment when it comes to dishing out the allocation of heavily over subscribed models.
I still wish you good fortune in getting your car - just not at the sake of me losing mine

Fair enough. I respect your POV. Nothing either of us can do about it anyway! Hopefully they will produce enough for all that want to buy and drive it. That will sort out the speculators!

Historical customers get screwed too despite supporting the brand for many years and showing complete loyalty to the OPC... Also not welcoming new customers means no new relationships can be built. I guess this is why nobody trusts car salesmen...!

Banks offer mortgages (or did) at more competitive rates to new customers...
A really novel idea Porsche, build enough product to meet your customer demand!! Try that please.
I would like to buy a 991 GT3 RS, as well as my GT4 slot (should I get one), I have never ever found it this hard to spend £230,000 (my estimate of what the two will cost).
If I don't get slots I will not buy over list from speculators purely on principle, I will probably stick with the Exige V6.

Europe is facing economic headwinds, you would expect them to switch production to RHD. Is all this just a ploy to create demand for the Brand, with people switching to other more profitable offerings from Porsche.

If that's their plan then I wish them good luck. It will do the complete opposite for me.

I doubt it was their plan, I just think they believe that selling circa 250 cars into the UK in the second half of 2015 and 2016 would be sufficient. After all, that is about how many GT3s they sell every time there is a new one.
They probably figured that GT4 hasn't yet got a strong following / track history / no PDK etc and that number would be enough.
I think the success of the last GT3 has brought a whole new breed of speculators and non-brand customers who want to jump on the band wagon of purchasing a car that drives well and potentially appreciates in value.
If that really is the case they could quite easily just decide to make more once they know the demand is there.
I wonder if this will have a negative effect on sales of the Cayman GTS?
I was thinking of a GTS but after seeing the GT4 there is no way I could have any Cayman but the GT4. So if there are not enough GT4's to satisfy demand the money goes elsewhere.
Reasonable or not?

I suspect only for a very short timeframe until the 981 facelift is out... if at all.
If the 4-cylinder turbos are as bad as Walter Röhrl says then most of the recent 9A1 cars should keep their value quite well.

Think it will hardly impact residuals numbers are too small and sure you might decide if I can't have gt4 I won't have anything, but it's a bit illogical and many will end up getting the gts
I actually think it might help values as a halo model that raises the caymans overall profile

Cunning plan by the Germans.
The b
d thing is this - I will want another proper NA Porsche in about 5 years. I will have to pay about a billion squids for a decent 997.2 or 991.1 by then, I think.
I don't see prices for the last few thousand Porsches with proper engines going down much.
hi guys.
The chaps at my OPC Porsche centre Sutton Coldfield)are being as helpful as they can. I am told that they took a total of 6 deposits and are not taking anymore. Although I was the first person at the dealership to actually deposit (by 10 a.m on the first day) I am third on the list because 2 people who had letters of intent proceeded to deposit on the car. I have been told by the salesman that I will get a car. I have just spoken with the sales manager and he confirms that they have heard that there will be a total of 124 cars so just over 3 cars per OPC. He has no idea as yet, however, when they will receive their allocation.

Do you know if 124 in total or for this year? Hopefully 124 for this year! Keeping my fingers crossed Bournemouth can get me one....

Was told by someone linked to Porsche MS 124 for this year and similar amount next year.
My local OP has confirmed this eve they will get 4 this year some time between July and December. Looks like others are 3 cars this year. Which across 38 dealers means 124 is probably bang on.
I am 6th on list and my dealer has said I won't get one from this years batch but will get one from next years allocation.
That probably means will get sometime between Jan and June next year.
I am going to hold out for that and get something else in the mean time that I can sell before the GT4 lands.
is there any information on variation to this 3 or 4 for each dealer? such as 5/6 for very large dealer 2 for small one.
Did anyone hear of allocation greater than 4 for this year?
Left field question - has anyone tried placing an order for a UK C16 from an overseas dealership for these yet? If they are all sold out over here, that might not necessarily mean that they are throughout Europe? Might even save money the way that the Euro is going at the moment...

Yes you can get a UK C16 RHD car from Europe. Only a few countries will willingly do them and the great thing is some will actually give you a real contract to deliver rather than some random position on an imaginary list. If you really want one you can go down this route.

Is it just the RHD countries or could you order from Germany/ factory, for example?

You can get one from a German dealer too. Just go on Porsche's website and email the dealers directly to see who can offer you one.

Very interesting... Might well use this information over the weekend...
Nice idea, and base price at 85,776 euros, it works out at £63,474 (todays rate) so a tiny bit cheaper, but don't have you to pay import duty or such like?
you pay VAT at the rate of the destination country rather than the rate in Germany - did such an import few years ago. the rate is 19% in germany and VAT is 20% here.

Hmm, just googled HMRC and it says
3. VAT and tax: vehicles from within the EU
You usually need to pay VAT if you import a vehicle from within the EU.
You must also pay vehicle tax from the date your vehicle is registered with DVLA.
...
Reclaim VAT paid in the EU
You can reclaim the VAT you paid in another EU country. Send the Certificate of VAT you receive from HMRC to the person you bought the vehicle from.
https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk/...
So what that is saying is that you pay for it in Germany, then pay another 20% VAT in the UK but then reclaim the VAT at 19% paid in Germany - thus the price in the example I used about would increase by 1%.

have emailed dealers in France, Germany Italy and Belgium so for not a positive response all but one say they cannot supply RHD but they all have build slots available for LHD starting in May!!!!! The Italian only has 1 GT4 this year and its sold just fancied a drive home throughout the mountains still awaiting replies from others. The one who maybe able to help says car has to be registered in country then i have to export myself and claim back VAT and any other charges

I know the feeling. I've stopped using my local OPC so ordered the GT4 in June 2014 with another dealer further afield. Ultimately I had no confidence in this OPC supplying me with a car so, despite having the first LOI by some margin, I formally withdrew the LOI and placed an order elsewhere. I've been assured I will receive an early car unless cars are prioritised to 918 customers by PCGB. That's fine with me.
In my opinion, the LOIs don't matter and it's entirely down to the DP unless PCGB override him for a 918 customer. Some DPs are great whilst others suck; I've known both. At the end of the day it all comes down to relationship and trust. If there's little to no prior relationship, a person will be lucky to get a car in my opinion.

This is agree so why switch to a non-local opc? I did same actually as my local seemed generally clueless and disinterest preferring to tell me how great the 911gts is...now we don't have cars yet and I've not been assured just suggested that am in a good position to get one, so it's possible our local is the honest ones though does not explain Their lack of information.

I really do not understand the priority thing for 918 owners.
What is Porsches rationale for that?
I believe Porsche had a hard time selling all of the cars (918 of them?) and so they incentivized potential customers with perks like order priority on new cars.
Porsche America even set up a hotline where 918 owners could ask one of the factory drivers for "driving tips" around the clock.

It may be the case that to receive halo GT cars a non 918 profile customer has more chance of securing a build slot by becoming an 'OPC tart' rather than remaining loyal to their 'local'........

After being a customer for over 15 years, it's not a case of being loyal to the local OPC but never spending a penny with them again after the shocking way I was treated whilst they had my 'grounded' 991 GT3 by both the DP and his/her employer. They made false allegations and threats without checking their facts which resulted in them back-pedalling but stopping short of an absolute apology and without paying the legal costs I incurred. Notably this was after I started the Action Group. Consequently I was introduced to the DP at a non local dealer by the MD of PCGB.
These are just the facts but without being specific so as not to breach forum rules. I have the DP's threats in writing as well as legal correspondence to support this if the moderator requires them.

Hi
I believe you’ve been exchanging messages with Steve Fowler. I’m looking into this for you and will talk with Porsche about the issue. As I think Steve mentioned we had a potential GT3 RS buyer get in touch just this week over a similar issue.
Perhaps you could advise other Porsche buyers on your forum to contact us at [email removed] if they’d like us to look into their case of losing out, too.
Regards,
Joe
