Marky is there any way of changing the switches so both are one-touch up and down on both sides...??

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all, I'd be grateful if someone could check this function on their car. My driver's window goes up and down using the one touch function or up and down as far as I want if I keep my finger on it. Passenger side one works the same except there is no one touch for closing. I have to keep my finger on it until it's shut. Is this normal? Not the end of the world I realise, but I like these things to work if they should. Cheers

POST 2Original post

maybe try holding the button down for 5-7 seconds when completly down and then repeat when completly up. I seem to remember this may reset it

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, thank you. I'll try that.

POST 4Original post

Normal. On 996.1s anyway. Not sure about Mk2s. One touch for both on drivers. One touch for down only on passengers. :thumb:

POST 6Original post

Same on 997s. Safety so you can't cut your child's head off. Or the wife's, I suppose. But more open to debate, the latter. On a 997 it will go up automatically above half way but not before. It daft if you ask me, but that's the safety elf. Rich

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the replies. Nice to know what's normal. I did read the owners manual. But it wasn't too specific. Cheers

POST 8Original post

I checked my 996.1 cab and both driver and passenger windows go up and down using one touch!

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ah. That's chucked a spanner in the works. Mine is a 996.2. I've tried fully opening. Then holding the switch down for several seconds and doing the same on closing. Still the same. Will try swapping the switches over (if they're the same) and see where I am then. I'll report back! Cheers.

So glad I dropped on this thread as its been something I wanted to ask about for ages but kept forgetting. POST 11Original post

You get different safety regulations come out at different times so what might have been ok in the past had to be changed to comply with current rules .. This may have been year or model dependant which is why some cars auto close and some don't . Off hand i can't see a workaround for a 996 other than a rewire job as coding would just change what you already have from side to side . 997 and logically you could code the passengers door control unit to LHD and it would work .. different to a 996 . but as i've never done this i can't say if it would throw up other problems .

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
