Suggestion

You can easily run the wire to the fuse box without seeing any wire but I beleive there is also switched power available right beside the sun visor attachment point.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

Thanks to the Caymanclub.net/PCA deal I got a Passport and was wondering if anyone has tried wiring it to the harness at the dome light to minimize the wire run?

POST 2Original post

It seems like I've seen that done here but that if you have the auto dimmer there is a problem. You might want to search around for those posts.

POST 3Original post

The wire is only 15.00 and is real easy to run between the headliner and windshield down the trim panel between the dash right into the fuse panel. Good article in the articles section on this BTW, the area between the dash and trim panel. I just took the wire and placed it in the crack, placed one hand above the dash and one below and worked the wire back and forth and presto, it slipped right in.

POST 4Original post

I did the same thing after initially trying to get power from the dome light. The problem as stated was with the auto dimmer, and I never could get it to work. The fuse panel is a far better way to go. You can tap into an unused fuse port but make sure you have a fuse in line.

POST 5Original post

Michael, I can help you wire it to the fusebox - it wasn't difficult.

POST 6Original post

The fusebox is a fine solution, for the sake of a more elegant installation I'm going to try and wire to the dome light and install a power jack so I can use a short patch cord instead of having a wire hanging since I don't use a detector all the time. I found a 997 thread that should be a good start, thanks all.

POST 7Original post

Please do an article if you do it to the dome light.

POST 8Original post

You can easily run the wire to the fuse box without seeing any wire but I beleive there is also switched power available right beside the sun visor attachment point.

POST 9Original post

It's very simple. I used a blendmount wiretap and mount. 1. Gently pry the lighting panel down (side toward rear of vehicle) and locate the metal tabs and push them in with a panel tool as you pull down. 2. Pull the blue clip out and insert the positive lead into the black and red wire and the negative into the brown wire. 3. Reassemble.
