For my '11
987.2
Cayman
base I've replaced my CDR-30 head unit with a Pioneer AVIC Z150 and door speakers with 6 1/2" Infinity Reference 2-ways. I want to make the audio richer so will be adding rear 4" speakers, under-seat subwoofer and a 5-channel amp. I listen primarily to Pandora and through music stored on my iPhone (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jack White, U2, Stones, Coldplay....you get the picture). Given that my CDR-30 only has one 6 1/2" door speaker grill (not the 2 grills - 7" & 4" a that come in CDR-24 cars), I suspect my Infinity 2-ways should stay and NOT be replaced by a 6 1/2" component w/tweeter. Trying to keep costs modest, here's my questions:
What 4" rears do you suggest to mate with an under-seat subwoofer the Infinitys and a 5-way amp for my use? Was thinking the Infinity Reference 4" 2-ways.
which 5-way amp do you recommend? Was thinking about the Kenwood Excelon.
should I reconsider replacing the Infinity with a 6 1/2" component door speaker plus tweeter in the (presumably vacant) dash openings? Something like Rockford Fosgate Prime.
which under-seat subwoofer fits our seats and fills deep notes nicely (no need to rattle dental work loose)? Was thinking the Sound Ordinance 125W RMS.
Your input would be very valuable...
I'm not an expert on the speakers. I have
Bose system
with the adapter and a nice kenwood head unit. I have the tuning setup pretty well. It sounds crisp and from what people say, the Bose usually isn't THAT great.
As for the Subwoofer, you don't need anything too big or powerful. The
Cayman
interior is pretty small and the hatchback design is good for acoustics. I didn't quite trust the guy at the stereo shop, but it turns out, he knew what he was talking about. He told me to trust him and sold me a very small digital 300 watt amp and a 10" sub. I had the gain turned about half way up on the amp and it was very loud and booming. Everything in the rear of the car rattled like crazy. There is a lot of stuff in these interiors that can rattle. That was with the sub in the rear hatch area. I ended up turning it down and fine tuning everything. I temporarily moved the sub to the passenger footwell. It sounds amazing now. The sound somehow still sounds like its coming from the rear. I think the bass easily fills the entire interior. Having the sub under the seat would surely prevent any annoying rattles and I'm sure will sound great. But it might tickle your BH. I dunno...
