Suggestion

You either have to replace the cable to compensate for the removed units (cable with less connectors) or buy a MOST bypass loop cable (female) for each removed unit.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I am working on my '06 Cayman S for autox and am wondering about removing the sat nav dvd drive and what ever else I can from the front trunk, to save some weight on the front tires. My question is, if I remove and unplug the dvd drive, will the rest of the radio functions still work normally? With the advent of smartphones and GPS, the nav system never gets used on my car.

POST 2Original post

All of the accessory units (DVD, CD changer, Bose amp) are connected by a fiber optic cable (MOST). If you remove one of the units you break the circuit. You either have to replace the cable to compensate for the removed units (cable with less connectors) or buy a MOST bypass loop cable (female) for each removed unit. One like this. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/MOS...igation-Systems-For-Luxury-Cars/32495332374.html?spm=2114.40010708.4.104.Lqt4W9 You'll most likely still have to have the dealer reprogram the system so that it doesn't recognize the missing units. Not sure about this point so would check with a dealer.
