Have a brand new Dension GW 500 sitting on my dining room table. (delivered in record time from bumperplugs.com, thanks. Heck Eric even sent me an email with the latest firmware.) While reading over the various threads / articles trying to decide exactly how I am going to install it I came across one of the modifications in Firmware 2.08:
Modifications:
-------------
- iPod display: modified due to the limitations of new iPod Nano3 and Classic v1.0.3 firmwares. While iPod is playing Dension logo is displayed on the iPod screen.
This leads to my question: with one of the newer iPod Nano3’s (or the new iPod touch for that matter) will I be able to use the iPod interface directly when I chose? I was thinking about installing it such that the iPod will be within reach while driving so that I can use it’s interface when I want vice being stuck using only the CDR24’s interface. (For reference I have the CDR24 Bose sound system w/o a CD Changer.)
Along those lines: What kind of experience have you all had with the Dension unit and the new iPod Nano3 or Touch’s?
Thanks
Eric,
The ipod interface will look exactly just as it does if you are using the ipod with only headphones connected. Essentially the Dension acts only as a connected speaker system when in iPod control mode, you use the scroll wheel and controls as normal.

Hope that helps answer the q.
Eric,
I would like to connect my iphone to my Bose system (without Nav). I would like to control the system via the iphone and would like bluetooth to be functional. 1)Which Dennison unit(s) would you recommend? 2) you have a few models listed as arriving shortly, are these worth waiting for? 3) do you sell, or can recommend an esthetic and functional, non destructive iphone/ipod mount? 4) a simple yet unobtrusive microphone placement location. Help appreciated, presently driving around with my headphones in, which is not the smartest idea! Thanks
The only Dension unit we carry is the standard GW500 for iPod integration, and it has a BT adapter for it, but it is not a fully featured BT solution.
The Tooki will work only with PCM cars, so you're out on that one. But you mention that we show units arriving shortly....where did you see that?
Mic placement? Factory steering column or left of dome lamp.

Sorry for the delay in responding.
That's a very useful link, thanks
What about the spec.dock by 2point5.com? Does it imply the same limitations to a connected iPod Touch? (assuming that it is installed with the Dension 500)
Maybe somebody can explain exactly what "iPod does not support song information display in iPod Gateway Inteface mode" means? Does it mean that song display won't be shown on the CDR-24 (impossible?) or on the iPod?
Please note, I have the CRD-24 without BOSE
The CDR24 doesn't support text w/ the Gateway, so you won't get it regardless of which iPod you use.
No, I was aware of that, sorry for an unclear question. What I meant was, will it ever be possible? Is it due to the CDR24 or the firmware in the Dension unit?
not related to the Denison, but here's how to get MP3, bluetooth handsfree and GPS into a CDR24 equiped car...buy a Garmin NUVI 660 (higher model)
1. its got a built in MP3 player (use WMP11 to sync songs or drag-n-drop). the built-in mem is a joke though, you'll need a SDHC card 4GB or more
2. its got an FM transmitter built in that can scan for the best frequency
3. its got bluetooth handsfree mobile phone interface that also controls the phone's call functions, contact list, call lists....
4. it mutes songs and nav when a call comes in and resumes afterwards
5. it has live traffic warnings (via subscription)
6. it still has a bunch of other features i never use, like translation dictionary, calculator, city guides...
7. it has a customizable start up splash screen, so everytime i start it up, i see a porsche logo (neat)
8. DRAWBACK, it doesn't have a back-up camera and i don't have parking sensors =(
9. it does all this with only one cable for charger/traffic receiver- no cables if use it running on the battery
10. you don't even need to turn it on/off because it does it automatically when placed/removed from the cradle
the bluetooth phone interface should work with your iphone's phone fuctions, but i'm sure it won't pass-through the ipod part. if you're in SF bay area 90.9 is the best frequency for the transmitter. auto on/off feature makes using it painless.
