I've got the install of my IVA-W205 almost ready to go... Except the unit won't fire up when I turn on the car! I broke out the multimeter and the wiring harness checks our fine. I even still had an IVA-W200 (just sold on eBay) and confirmed it wasn't the head unit itself.
I also compared the harness to the pin placement on the car's plug and that all checks out (thank you, AVIC-D3 posts with the pin placement).
Lastly, I've also checked the fuse panel for anything blown. No dice.
The only thing I can think of is that maybe it's not grounded somehow? Or, the red accessory wire isn't triggering the unit on?? (Is that how it works?)
I may hook up a secondary wire to test the grounding theory, but does anyone here have an idea of what it could be - or have you had a similar issues with the Japanese trim kit?
Thank you in advance.
Update
Obviously my previous message doesn't have a ton of information, but I finally have more to go on.
I used the multimeter and check the wires coming from the car's harness. The ground and 12v power wire appear to be fine, but the red/accessory/switched wire doesn't activate when I turn the key!
I checked some of the other wires to see if they were on the switched 12v - nada.
The odd thing is, to test out what was going on I reconnected the CDR-24. That works fine.
So, has anyone had a problem with either:
• The accessory wire not working
•*The accessory wire not activating without some other thing (e.g. normally connected/triggered by the CDR-24)
Thoughts?
tie the accessory wire on the headunit to the same wire as the +12v and see if that fires it up.
The accessory wire on the headunit should connect to a switched source such as Fuse C6 in the fuse box for proper function. The existing accessory (remote) wire needs to be relocated on the wiring harness so that the sound package plus amplifier will continue to work (if that's the sound system you have).

Thanks shellshocked and suneet! I also had a friend translate the section of the (Japanese) directions about the C6 fuse location... that definitely helped.
Suneet - I think I know which wire you are talking about for the amp... I do have sound package plus. Here are the pin locations as listed from someone's AVIC-D3 install on this site:
1 - Not used
2 - ASK amplifier remote turn on (connect REMOTE lead here)
3 - Not used
4 - 12v constant (Battery)
5 - Antenna (Connect power antenna lead from D3 here. Looking over the wiring diagrams, it seems that the Cayman's antenna is powered. (not motorized, but still powered)
6 - not used
7 - not used
8 - GROUND
Should I relocated the head unit's accessory (blue/white) remote turn on wire to the ASK amp location? It should be the only wire remaining of the 4 from the car's pin locations - ground (8), antenna (blue, 5) and battery/power (4) are already taken, of course!
I'll give that a go, and should be all set.
Other head units I've done have been much more plug-and-play than this, including a 944 and 968 I've done. No running wires to the fuse panel, just wire up everything to the wires from the stock head unit.
Thanks again!
