Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

and sometimes it starts off with the wrong time and then spontaneously jumps to the correct time that I set earlier.....
Leading evidence: 'Set earlier' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect battery without having' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

but i can disconnect the battery without having to input a radio code so i think that makes a PCM with MOST.

Changing the PCM one should 'reflect on the OBD' it says, but it would appear that mine is not doing that.

Set the time on the PCM and hey presto, the time updated the digital time display on the instrument cluster.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The digital clock display in the instrument cluster seems to have two times in its memory.
It comes up with a 'wrong' time and I reset it to the correct time. When I stop the car for a while and restart it, sometimes it starts off with the correct time .... and sometimes it starts off with the wrong time and then spontaneously jumps to the correct time that I set earlier..... and sometimes just stays with the wrong time.
The wrong time does not appear to be a random time, but rather a time that is a fixed interval different from from the correct time (need to confirm this).
Anyone had any experience of anything like this?
Has it got PCM?
There was a post a while ago that the PCM configuration cannot accept the latest date format which is part of the GPS signal (IIRC). Mine will not show the correct date. I've also seen the time issue you describe.
Yes, it does have PCM
not sure which version without looking ... but i can disconnect the battery without having to input a radio code so i think that makes a PCM with MOST.
I had a search on this forum for PCM issues and found this post:
http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=46399
which tells me that there is, in fact, two potential clock times ..... one in the PCM and one in the OBD.
Changing the PCM one should 'reflect on the OBD' it says, but it would appear that mine is not doing that.
So I will have a go at setting the PCM clock (didn't even know there was one!) and will report back.
Success! For the moment...
Set the time on the PCM and hey presto, the time updated the digital time display on the instrument cluster.
Am out for a long trip tomorrow so will get a chance to see that the time 'sticks' on this correct setting.
If so, then we can conclude that the PCM time overwrites anything entered on the time adjuster knob on the instrument cluster.
Now I notice that the PCM date has dropped back to year 2000, and there are plenty of posts to read that talk about the difficulty of correctly setting that!
Well, after a near 100 mile trip the time issue seems sorted, so ......no issues when the time is entered through the PCM rather than the OBC.
..... but of course I am now looking at the, 'previously unnoticed' date on the PCM which is rock steady on 01/06/2000.
From what I can read on this forum, particularly about a 'satellite rollover' date in April 2019, there is about as much chance of correcting/adjusting the date as there is of HS2 coming in 'on budget'.
In the vain hope that there are OCDers out there who have pursued this issue with a tenacity beyond any sense of rationality, does anyone have any ideas?
..... or have I just added a new source of paranoia to the susceptible who haven't looked at the PCM home screen in detail for a while!
As luck would have it, I am, this morning, able to give you a considered response to your question.
The 100 mile trip referred to above was in fact a journey to Cotswold Porsche Specialists for the first major service in my ownership. I have been sitting in their waiting room like an expectant father to be, waiting for Lee to accompany me to the service bay to discuss the snag list with the technician. I am sure there are others who can empathise with my anxiety as the hours went by and the anticipated list was, in my head, growing ever longer and more expensive. Citrus fruit in the form of lemons was dominating my thinking....
... but joy prevailed, the list, although having a dozen items on it, had nothing on it that I didn't already know about, nothing requiring urgent attention and was more a reflection of their forensic examination of the underside and pointing out every bit of minor corrosion, that will be easy to address.
Lee made the point that the list only details the bad points and does not point out the 'good bits' of the car. From his positive comments I can conclude that the car is in really good condition for its age and that I have bought a good'un.
An enquiry as to the location of the flux capacitor in the car, however, drew only a puzzled look, so that must remain a mystery.
..... but the sense of relief at the insignificance of the 'list' has completely banished my PCM 'let's all meet in year 2000' date issue paranoia.
