Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Correct, already did it once (using Mobil 1 0w40 as they advised) and it was absolutely whistle clean, will be doing it again but this time going back to 5w40 I've always used prior on M96 cars.

if memory serves you were going to do a few oil changes back to back to flush the engine after the IMSB issue.

Mine's run on that from day 1 up to 120k 18 years later.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello there,
So my car recently had it's oil changed to 0w40 Mobil 1 at the specialist that did my IMS replacement, now the engine has a tappet like noise on bank two for about 10 seconds after start up, which then goes away and doesn't come back.
Some times doesn't do it on start up either (guessing different cam position) so I'm guessing there's a hydraulic lifter which either has an air bubble or is taking a little longer to fill up.
The car never did this before on the 5w40 oil I've always used, could this actually be a thing?
This might be worth a read

If it didn't do it on the 5w40 I'd try that again on the next oil change... if memory serves you were going to do a few oil changes back to back to flush the engine after the IMSB issue.

It's most likely a lifter (possible chain tensioner?) as if it were anything more serious it wouldn't go away after a few seconds, could be the exhaust manifold gasket which are known to tick sometimes, but I don't think so.
It's not severe enough to make me think crank bearings/bore scoring or anything like that, plus they wouldn't quieten down after 10 seconds.
A very basic rule of thumb and a chain tensioner is more of a rattle with a tappet being a distinct tap tap tap etc ..
5/40 oil is what we would use on a car over approx 50K miles at work .. if it was fine before then perhaps go back to that .
If unsure then a sound clip would help a lot ... tappet is what it sounds like though .
