Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Has anyone tackled the replacement of the pump to rack power steering lines. This is the last big job on my 986 project & I understand the 996 ones are similar. The Porsche ones are rather pricey & I have seen mention of getting lines made up by a hydraulic hose company. I have phoned round a few without success – they seem to any need originals to copy and my mechanic mate thinks that won't work as mine are too bent out of shape. Any suggestions welcome.

POST 2Original post

If it's that big a hassle you could opt for a trw electric ps pump mounted in the frunk. I did this. I cut the original pipes as they crossed to the passenger side, got some new lines crimped on by a hose specialist and at the other end it was just long enough to go through into the frunk to suit my needs. A hose specialist will charge peanuts compared to genuine. Is there any reason you can't run a flexi from the pump to the rack?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I have read a little about electric pumps but want to keep changes to a minimum. Flexis sound the best way; it's just getting somewhere to make them up.

POST 4Original post

I've used pirtek in the past for making new ps lines. Just bring the old part in and tell them you need the same but not buggered! Quire often open and quiet on a Saturday morning too.

POST 5Original post

You can get these adaptors to fit to the rack which give you -6AN thread to connect a new hose to http://johnjamesracing.com/product/rebel-s-racing-rsr-steering-rack-fittings-for-elec-pump/
