I ran the rear camera and reverse sense wiring to the front of the car, installed the GPS and XM antennas under the windshield wiper cowl and installed my iPod cable in the "CD holder" in the glove box today.

I've fitted a Pioneer AVIC-HD3 (Z2 to you) in to my Boxster and I can honestly say it's the best piece of kit I've ever fitted to a car - literally does everything I need of it.

I am considering uprgrading my non-bose stereo system, possibly upgrading to the AVIC-3. I am interested in seeing how everything looks and works (AVIC and other brands/models) . It would be nice to have Bluetooth, XM, and I-pod/MP3 connectivity in a Porsche.
I have searched and read post from the previous year, but didn't find the information I am looking for.
I just had a Kenwood DNX7100 installed last week. You can read the specifics on it a few posts down from this one.

I had read your thread, and found it very helpful, which actually led me to start this thread, to see what others have done. I am very impressed with your system, and was starting to favor it over the Pioneer systems.

If you get a high quality set of separates, you'll need an amp to power them. Also the space in the doors isn't very plentiful, so you'll be missing a bit on the low end.
My advice is to find the best installers in the city. It will be expensive, but even more expensive to fix a hack job.
I know in my 996 there is a sub below the passenger's seat (it works well warming up my wife on the way home from date night). Is there a stock sub in the Cayman, and if there is where is it located? (No, I didn't check the FAQ, owner's manual or do a search about this. I accept any scolding that I receive)

I am in the process of installing an Avic D3 myself. There is a $200 rebate on that system available now, you can search for my post to find the details. I ran the rear camera and reverse sense wiring to the front of the car, installed the GPS and XM antennas under the windshield wiper cowl and installed my iPod cable in the "CD holder" in the glove box today. I will install the head unit next weekend when I get the Japanese trim kit from Ebay. So far, it has actually been quite easy and I have enjoyed doing it.
