if my memory serves me well a couple of years ago i was strolling across the workshop of an OPC and spyed a unusual coloured (yellow) 997 GT3 RS.2 without an engine which was in bits on the bench being rebuilt - i believe the owner got a somewhat lower gear than intended whilst going down the box in error on a track day....work checking with the vendor that my memory isn't playing tricks on me, which of course it may be, but belt and braces thought worth mentioning it.

It's quite an orange yellow if that makes sense, but it does change shade a little with different light conditions.

I don't know if the first owner intended to track it but it has been photographed several times since on track so maybe steels better (another debate I know).
p.s. Yum Yum Yum.

Right. But for me for mainly road use at that money i would want the ceramics.
I do like it with the leather dash as well.

Up there with viper green, for me.
Any idea how many we're made in that colour?
only one ive seen in the UK.. seen another lhd one on French plates at Le Mans.

I bet there's no more than a couple in the uk, maybe even only one. Maybe this is the car?
I'm certain that is the very same car. I think there was a signal yellow car in the far east but the french car was just speed yellow and nothing else in Europe. Could be wrong, I usually am.

Ripe for a Manthey 4.3 K510...
Steve , would you mind please asking where he got the front winglets ( ala 4 RS ) and a part no/price if possible.
Stunning car, considerably undervalued IMHO.

Steve - was the engine rebuilt?

Undervalued, are you sure? I would say its about right, as PTS, but over 14k miles.

If it is hiding an engine rebuild and OPCs would not touch it (for some reason) then it is overvalued. Though this is just internet speculation until the facts are confirmed. It does look nice and the 3.8 RS is an awesome drive

Signal yellow? Was that special order then? Looks fantastic. Just a shame about the chuffin stupid centre locks...
I think the paint to sample for this car cost 6 grand for some reason but not sure why. Is not PTS normally about 3K?
The PTS on this car was a lot of money.
The paint was expensive, having the decals done in black was expensive. I had it priced up when I ordered my RS and it was a more than £6k, plus VAT. Very ouch.
Absolutely stunning. I really fancy taking a punt at this. But before I do, would it be too hardcore ? Is the gearing any good for road use ? Would it be suitable for use on UK roads ? I've heard it said that all GT3's are s
t, is this really the case ?

Ask Mr Demon
Best 997 RS Mk2 spec ever!
Signal Yellow much nicer then Speed Yellow, the orangish shade of Signal is to die for...
If only this car was LHD I would have bought it back in 2010 when it was originally for sale.

I have seen one or two 997 GT2 for similar prices. I know that they are very different cars, but what are the views out there as to which would hold value best in say 20 years!? I have an itch for a GT3 but wonder if the GT2 would be better value in 20 years. This GT3 looks stunning and would be a nice addition but I keep thinbking of GT2 very long term values - ex 993 GT2!!

For a PTS car it was underpriced IMHO. Colour shouldn't matter that much, but there are extremely few PTS Gen2 RSs out there thus they usually go quickly and for a premium. I reckon that whoever bought it might well have been prepared to go somewhat higher for it. Maybe they are on here and once it is in their possession would be prepared to comment?

I agree and would have been prepared to pay more than that for that car...always two schools of thought on this though...1. It sells quickly, therefore correct price, or 2. It sells quickly, therefore too cheap.

And 3. Overpriced car sells quickly to a chump!
That seams like a good value car. That colour is special in the flesh and will command a premium over standard colours in my experience. Even if the car had warranty work if its not been bent someone has a special car.

Cayman black, yes it's mine now.
Congrats on the purchase, when these type of unique cars come up for sale you have to be quick, they just aren't making them anymore.
Plain and simple , if you really want a ltd run GT Porsche you pay the money and secure the car after doing the due diligence bit.
Looks a fantastic example.

I was adding a third scenario to the reason that cars sell very quickly. I wasn't being specific to this car.

Lovely looking car that, just lovely. I got Andreas to sign a brochure for that car at the silver stone launch event so I'm making it my mission to eventually get one.
I am currently quite a bit short of the necessary funds!
Congrats

Thats how i read it as well!
There are a lot of people on this forum that seem intent on under valuing, questioning or deriding just about every car that comes onto the market. It's a shame. Decent dealers selling good cars are often on a hiding to nothing because of it. In this instance a lot of people missed out on a bargain.

I see this on other forums too, Steve - even from Porsche owners. I can't understand it.

^^^ Agreed, one of a kind this example and IMHO the price did not reflect its rarity ^^^
Lovely collection. That's so cool. Thanks for sharing.
How do you ever find the time to drive them all?
Blue is still the best. My colleague has a mexico blue 7.2 RS would fit into that picture perfectly.

He's talking about the Mexico blue RS discussed above...
I also talked with JZM about the Signal Yellow RS, unfortunately for me I was away on business when it popped up. Wasnt comfortable going forward without viewing...meanwhile you snapped it up.
Looking forward to seeing some pics out in the open not under the lights of the showroom.. Congratulations. but your correct you really need a Gen1 RS....in orange maybe...fancy a swop?

Brilliant, looks great.
Is it the camera/light, or does signal yellow go quite orange in some lights?
Nice to see the model is different colours from the norm.

It's quite an orange yellow if that makes sense, but it does change shade a little with different light conditions. The best way I can describe it is almost the colour of traffic signs, the yellowy orange ones.

Whatever shade it goes, it looks great.
What a nice collection to have. Is the plan to sell one of the 997s or just have two of exactly the same model?
Maybe one will help towards a 991 RS? What a threesome that would be to own.
Not in the slightest bit jealous....

The plan never was to buy another 7.2, somewhat of an impulse purchase. I should never have gone to look at it! No plans to sell any of them, but I suppose the smarter move might have been to get a 7.1.
Congrats.....that's the first yellow car I really like the look of!
If only I had a spare 40k lying around my gen1 997 gt3 would have been traded in for that. Looks awesome in yellow, something out of a transformer film!!
Nothing like rejuvenating an old thread...
Just popped along to see if you still have the Yellow car? and to point you at the Cotswold Meet up ina couple fo weeks where there wil be a couple of other PTS RS cars... including 2 9973.8GT3RS's
