Suggestion

There are 4 different control modules for the ZF box depending on MY, and two are listed for MY99, so to get the feature you would probably have to change the module, at a cost of £1300-ish as JohnB says.

and is it possable to upgrade to this feature, i assume by changing the tiptronic ecu for a later version (not too late as mine only has the 5 different driving programs which i again assume i would have to keep)

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hi there i have a 1999 C2 Tip which doesnt have this, the steering wheel buttons only work when gear selector is in manual position i know later cars have a overide in auto mode but i cannot seem to find any info as to when this was introduced? i am guessing later in 1999/2000 (mine is a Jan 1999 build, first sold in Jersey, that might make a difference) and is it possable to upgrade to this feature, i assume by changing the tiptronic ecu for a later version (not too late as mine only has the 5 different driving programs which i again assume i would have to keep) any info would be apreciated, and if anybody else has done this i would be very interested to know the costs involved cheers Tim

POST 3Original post

Hi I believe this feature on the tips became available on the face lift cars fitted with the merc autobox. The merc box has around 250 different programs designed to meet a variety of driving conditions & styles and the ability to drop a cog and hold for 8 sec, was not a feature on the ZF box. There was a thread running on this some time ago which may be worth finding that suggested a number of components could be changed to enable this feature on the earlier cars, at a cost. If I recall the number was over a grand to to do this. :?:

POST 4Original post

As J90RDN says, I think it was introduced on the MY2000 ZF transmission or part way through MY1999. There are 4 different control modules for the ZF box depending on MY, and two are listed for MY99, so to get the feature you would probably have to change the module, at a cost of £1300-ish as JohnB says. Personally, I preferred the manual only/auto only setup on my 98 C2 compared to the later control system, but then again I drive it in manual almost all the time. The MB control module changes down to 2nd at 20mph when in manual whether you want to or not, and it can be really annoying.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks guys at £!300 i guess i can live with sliding a lever 1 inch i almost always used to drive in auto but on a recent tip to the scotish highlands discovered the merits of the full maual mode on a twisty road so i will put that idea in the mental bin and wait till i upgrade the whole car in a few years cheers for all your replys tim
