last week i posted a thread saying my engine management light came on! i have taken it to my local porsche centre who serviced i assumed it may jus be a coil pack as the car was misfiring. the verdict was that it is actually one of the tappets that is sticking open and the quote i got was for £2200 to put it right :sad: :sad: !!!!!!! i have had the car 2 weeks and carried out an rac inspection before buying it. The porsche centre said that this problem was present before i bought the car as the coil pack have been changed howeb=ver the rac inspection didnt pick up on it. The porsche centre sais they would have picked up on it if they had checked it. can anyone help, and shouldnt the rac pick up the bill????? thanks :?

It's certainly worth contacting the RAC. Did you receive a report from the RAC? Did that stated that they'd looked at that particular area and signed it off as ok? If they don't check that as part of their standard inspection then I expect you'll have a bit of a fight on your hands.

help £2200 pounds is a lot of money for a sticking tappet, and why is it stuck...can you hear a tapping noise from that bank of cylinders? I would think its more likely a broken valve spring as I dont see how the bucket can stick in the housing.......even if the hydrualic part was shafted and the valve did not open fully you have 2 inlets and 2 ex per cylinder. even so to remove the cam cover and replace the set and the housing does not come to £2200 so a second oppinion is a must

did you buy the vehicle from a garage? if so you should still be under their 90 day warranty

I had a sticky valve on number 5 cylinder which showed up as an ECL warning. It was an expensive repair but fortunately mine was still under the OPC extended warranty. The price being quoted is the same as I was. Hope you have some recourse as this is not the best introduction to the marque.
