Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I ended up re-using the plastic side plates with the destroyed buttons - I filed most of what remained of the buttons away - and on sliding the radio back into the frame, it held there "tight-enough" for me.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hello everyone! I have a 2005 Porsche Boxster 987 that I installed a double din aftermarket radio into about about 2 years ago. It was installed with a pressure fit dash kit supplied by American International. Installation instructions state that to remove, press in ll four clips on left and right and kit should slide out. I followed the instructions and the radio won't budge. I went the lengths of removing most interior trim panels surrounding the center console to see about pushing or pulling from behind. I wasn't able to get it to move with that tactic either. The radio and kit have done their job great! So great that not even the owner can remove the components to do repairs. I would be happy with any advice you all have.

Do you have a photo of the kit? Or a link to it? If it's like the one I installed - it had a shell that was mounted in the radio opening, then two plastic plates that bolted onto the sides of the radio, and the radio slid into the shell, and 4 plastic buttons in the plates that bolted to the side of the radio popped out in corresponding holes in the shell - locking it all in place. The problem removing it is - the buttons tend to bend when you try to depress them from the front using something thin like a small spackling knife - locking it even tighter into the opening. After almost a full day of frustration trying to get the radio out - I ended up taking a hacksaw blade to the buttons by sliding the hacksaw blade in the gap next to the radio. The hacksaw blade cut off part of the buttons, and then levering the rear of the radio with a plastic trim tool I was able to remove the radio. I ended up re-using the plastic side plates with the destroyed buttons - I filed most of what remained of the buttons away - and on sliding the radio back into the frame, it held there "tight-enough" for me. I've looked at several different mounting packages for radios and have yet to find one I think would really work right out of the box.. some modification would probably be best done on them before pushing the radio home.

I apologize for the lack of photos. I was not prepared and lazy. My kit is just the same as yours and I was going to cut off the tabs as my next try. It just looks like the tabs are all out of the way. No harm in trying. Thank you for the suggestion.
