Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I drove one of my favourite local roads today for the first time in a 996, (previous Porsche was 964, changed two weeks ago), It's 18 miles of twisty Cornish country 'B' roads between Lands End and St Ives, and for the most part, in my 964 it would have been driven in 2nd and 3rd with the very occasional stretch in 4th, But today, I drove it mainly in 4th/5th, and still maintained some 'pick-up' when I applied the throttle in 3rd & 4th without juddering or labouring, So I think I'm starting to understand the practical differences of bhp vs torque. Now I know my old landrover has lots of low end torque, but I was pleasantly surprised in the torque of the 996 at between 1500-2000rpm in 3rd and 4th, We're obviously not talking racing speeds here, but on a pleasant country road drive, I was impressed, Just think of al the wear and tear, (ie money), and fuel I'm saving, thus reducing my carbon footprint?? Do you think I'll get a Green grant from the government for continued Porsche ownership :?:

POST 2Original post

yes: missed the low down torque i had in the 944s2 when i changed to the 993; makes the 993 easy to drive as much less power low down so you don't end up doing anything silly, over 4K rpm however...

POST 3Original post

I have found exactly the same in my 996TT. I can be doing 40mph in sixth gear and still have plenty of torque should I need it. Great cars

POST 5Original post

...this might be a locals comment. Cornish cracking road, which I nicknamed the 'sky' rd is between Gwithian and Portreath not far from your jaunt. A 5k straight with built in kink half way, I used to do this in a 635 Motorsport. I thought that was fun although compared to the 911 it was positively whale like. I've done this track so many times I reckon I'd beat the 'Stig'. Early evening best time. Wonderful. Dave
