Suggestion

From the verbiage it seems this is an adapter that fits inside the factory filter housing, to allow one to use a non-standard length filter cartridge.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

was doing an oil change an saw this in my drip pan. I'm sure it goes into the oil pedestal area and the filter attaches but just to be sure i had to ask. the part I'm talking about is in this thread. so apparently it sits at the base of the oil filter housing? https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/1072756-diy-guide-full-flow-non-bypass-oil-filter-housing-mod-for-1-no-spin-on.html#&gid=1&pid=1

POST 2Original post

I've never seen on of those things. From the verbiage it seems this is an adapter that fits inside the factory filter housing, to allow one to use a non-standard length filter cartridge. That's just a guess, and I'm gonna feel really bad if everyone else has one.

POST 3Original post

Yes it fits in the bottom of the oil canister.

POST 4Original post

Your filter probably collapse ? Whatever the reason, do yourself a favor and change your filter housing. It is cheap (about 25 usd) compared to a blown engine ! Some folks on this forum talk about replacing the housing about every other oil change. Or maybe consider upgrading to a spin on ? If it were me I wouldn't put this back on.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I put it back on. Put the spring piece on one end of the oil filter and inserted it into the housing till i felt it click into place. Drove 50 miles home no problems, first few miles after an oil change always has me paranoid though. looking in that rear view for an oil trail.
