This is not a probability of success.

I'd figure what ever the case the plastic has to get a good UV protection or the same problem is coming back.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My headlamps are showing a bit of road rash. Is there a way to clean these up without having to buy all new units?

POST 3Original post

I think some waxes or protective coatings would shine them. There's a sand then polish thing you can do. I'd figure what ever the case the plastic has to get a good UV protection or the same problem is coming back.

POST 4Original post

Do a search. I know a lot of people say that if you polish the headlights, you take off a protective coating and it's all downhill from there. I'd think you could polish and then put on a clear film, but I have no experience trying it.

POST 5Original post

I doubt you're going to be able to do anything about road rash. Most people who sand/polish headlights do so because the UV coating has failed and turned a dull yellow/brown. Sanding and polishing removes the failed UV coating, leaving the headlights clear again. It also leaves them unprotected. How to protect them at that point is the topic of countless online debates. Clear film, clear coat paint, polyurethane home brews and others have all been touted as the cure. Unfortunately, there is not a single, generally recognized solution.

POST 6Original post

There's this thread over at renntech with a DIY horror story that turned out OK in the end. But only because they had to hire someone to correct their handywork.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

They are not too bad. Probably best to leave alone.
