Further to the above, is this what I would use to check gaps?

What can I use to stick it back on, will the above stuff work or should I use some sort of metal glue or what?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys
First proper rainy day I have been out and about in the car for long periods of time today around london, stuck in stop start traffic (Chelsea Playing, torrential rain, etc :nooo
Anyway, I have found out the heated rear window demister does not seem to work, this has made street parking a rear guess exercise! not good! Almost need to do lamborghini countach style rear parking sitting on the Sill with the door open!
Any quick fixes anyone knows, i.e fuse etc before I spend a fortune taking it to a specilist?
Can the rear window element burn out or degrade? The car is 10 years old now
Cheers Guys
Slowly mending all the little niggles in the car one by one, nearly there!
Edward
Does the led display come on when you press the button?
- Is yours a targa? As with most heated window... there usually is a clip the connects from the window to the car...
- It can even be the case that one of the "main lines/circuit" on the rear screen may of got scrached, therefore will stop functionally as the circuit would be broken.. - have a look and see if this is the case.
Also worthwhile to check you fuses (which you probably tried)...
Cheers C.afsar
No mine is a 1998 C2 (pre facelift obv) coupe
The little led in the switch doe come on yes, but nothing seems to happen, ven 15 mins later!
Not tried the fuses yet, no idea which does what, annoyingly I have a facelift instruction owners manual, and a pre facelift car! Do you know which it would be? Not sure the windscreen wiper variaable knob works either, could be linked, or just random.
If it is a broken elemant in the windscreen does the glass have to be replaced? Sounds expensive if so!
Thanks Edward
If the wire on the screen has scratched through, painting conductive paint to rejoin the separated sectins may work.

Cheaper than a whole new glass and less disruptive.
Heated rear window
Mine doesnt work either, a 996 C2 cab. 1998
Is there a clip to connect it to the hardtop? I didnt see it mentioned in the manual if there is.
Not sure if the heated mirrors work either, they are on the same fuse. I have found that if the fuse is blown the LED on the switch doesnt come on. According to the wiring diagram there is a relay that does both raer window and mirrors. Trouble is it doesnt say where it is, anyone any ideas?
Thanks Ritchie
Hi Chaps, still not fixed this, I had a look but could not see an obvious break on the window lines.
What is the machine is use to test the bars - is it called an ammeter?
Also what side and top/bottom of the windscreen is the joint where the cable fixes on?
Thanks
Edward
You would be better off with one of these:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=46455
Once you have located the point where the heating element joins the window, put one lead on the +ve terminal and one on the -ve terminal and see if there is continuity.
I'm not sure if the elements on the glass themselves are insulated. I think they may be over painted to stop them from corroding. (The copper would turn green if they weren't coated wouldn't they?)
Hi guys
Have now had a much better look and removed the side panal of the inside C pillar.
Have discovered that the bar that joins the cable to the window is not connected to the window, it has cleanly broken off where the solder is to the window. (so that the wire now has the metal thing on it)
What can I use to stick it back on, will the above stuff work or should I use some sort of metal glue or what? I have found this on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/No-Soldering-...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4cebb48ee4
Also is that the only cable or is there one the other side too etc? I didnt want to remove too much trim!?
Thanks
Edward
If the existing connection has broken through then I don't think the stuff on ebay would last very long. You would be better off soldering it back on. It would be a 5 minute job for someone. Buy yourself a soldering iron and have a go.
