Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • 911uk: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have 2001 turbo with the standard gear knob. Have loosened the gaitor but can't get the gear knob off from the metal shaft. Have checked the archives and it seems that the Carrera knob is not fitted with any grub screws. Cant see any sign of any on the turbo knob either though the Techquipment replacement has one. Im pretty strong but Im damned if I can pull my knob off (fnnr fnnarr). Any tips?

POST 3Original post

The carrera and turbo ones are the same. I had the same problem but it slowly came off by levering it off from the bottom a little at a time with a screw driver. But put a towel round the lever to protect the centre console. The new one goes on a bit easier with a few good thumps from your hand to get it right to the bottom.(although I dont know what you are replacing it with).Mine was a standard Porsheshop replacement.

POST 4Original post

From memory is it just an interference fit, though as you say the ally pack knob has a grub screw

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Will have one final go at this tomorrow before its hacksaw time. Really dont want to destroy it but it just is not f@#!ing budging. Tried levering it off from beneath with a chisel. Just distorted the plastic base of the knob. Surely to God there has to be a simpler way than destroying it?

Is Fatima Whitbread available?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Right, finally got the ***** off. They seem to be glued. Took a footlong pieoe of wood, drilled a hole in the middle a little wider than the metal gear shaft. Cut a slot to the hole in the wood and then used a hand each end of the spar to pull it up and off. It actually it the roof!
