Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Here is another Exhaust company that has products for the CS.

There is an existing topic on this product. Was not viewed favorably due to poor performance results on Boxsters. No one here has tried it on a Cayman to my knowledge.

for the first BB exhaust topic.
Look in the articles section for the results of the Miltek product and we are waiting on Kenny to report on the Tubi.
Just installed BB Series 2 Cayman Exhaust
I just installed the Billy Boat Series 2 Cayman exhaust... It was extremely straight forward to install (2 hours start to finish) and, unlike the last Fabspeed exhaust I helped install on a Cayman, was a perfect fit... The mufflers tuck up nicely and don't hang down at all below the rear apron... The sound is VERY deep which gives my Croc a menacing growl... This exhaust setup is definately not for you if you want to listen to the sound system at a low or moderate level... The cabin SPL level is much louder than with the stock exhaust... I especially like the fact that it's a true dual exhaust... The AWE & Fabspeed both flow into a single collector then out whatever tips you install... Common sense tells me, that although the Fabspeed & AWE are better than the factory, going into a single collector has to be more restricting than dual exhausts... I'll post pictures of the install when I get the opportunity... THIS CROC OWNER IS EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH THE PRODUCT!!!
I intend to dyno the car as soon as the opportunity arises... Series 2 has a separate tube from the header to the muffler instead of the series one which was welded to the muffler... I'm sure it has to do with fit and adjustment... The sound is deep and I would say there is definately some resonance... I would say it's louder than the AWE which is installed on my friend's Cayman... But loud is my personal taste... If I want quiet, I'll drive my Ford Escape company vehicle... What I really liked about the system is the quality build, the way it tucks up so nothing is hanging down and of course the sound...
Sound preference is very subjective. If you like it loud, that's your choice, and maybe Billy Boat should be your exhaust. I would buy an exhaust for the sound over which one gives you an extra 4-5hp. Bull, it sounds like you have first hand knowlegde of the sound difference, which is valuable information for those looking to make a decision. The guys who attended Croctoberfest got to hear some different exhausts, but most of us have only heard one or two and usually not right next to each other.
Bull_30 thanks for the info.
I also like that they are true dual Exhaust and I think the tips are positioned well and look nice.
Did you install the system with Cats or without?
Thanks again
I installed the mufflers without the cats... Now I only have the primary cats and not the secondary... No CEL light... I just now returned home from a cruise...I aired it out and let it rip... Definately more power and the sound is outstanding... There is some resonance at certain rpm ranges... I definately like it better than my friend's AWE system... I wouldn't even consider the Fabspeed just because of the way it hangs down not to mention the way it fits... I've now heard the Billy Boat, AWE and Fabspeed... I have to say, for a system with the price tag around $1200.00, this Billy Boat system is hard to beat... I'm VERY pleased...
Anyone in the bay area (San Francisco) that has a Tubi, Awe or BB that I can listen to? I want to buy an exhaust, but you can't realy judge by the sound clips.
I honestly don't care much if it makes a few more HP or not. Bonus if it does, but main thing is the sound for me.
I think the Cayman S has got enough power on any twisty road and occasional track day. Yes ok you can always use more power on the straights or if you are going to run 1/4 miles or similar, anyone can floor the throtle and hold-on. the real skills and fun all comes in play when braking, entering or exiting turns.
The installer that installed my BB system was extremely impressed with the quality... He had installed the BB 986 Boxer system a couple of times and was less than impressed with the quality, especially the welds, design and sound...
He really likes the sound of the BB exhaust... He has the AWE on his Cayman and feels the BB was easier to install and sounds better & louder!!! Now as far as power is concerned, the jury is still out...
I
disagree
with this statement. I think the Fabspeed, AWE and Milltek ALL sound better than the Tubi. Tubi had too much resonance and too much quasi-flatulence for my tastes.
I will reiterate once again that people should either listen to exhausts first hand (hey another reason to go to croctoberfest) or compare sound clips done with the same recording equipment to make up their own minds, followed by vendor sound/video clips.
Taking someone's word for how an exhaust sounds here or anywhere else is a dangerous proposition.
You hear funny things from installers... looking at the BB system there is no way it is any easier to install than the AWE exhaust, both look very similar in how they mount and I can tell you the AWE exhaust was darn easy to install.
Now as far as sound goes I have not heard the BB in person but I have the AWE on my car now and FOR ME I would NOT want to go any louder. The 9ff exhaust was louder than mine and nearly everyone at Croctoberfest who heard the 9ff exhaust hated it. I understand personal preferences may vary on subjective items.
On objective items like installation time/difficulty, weld quality, etc. I do not see anything about the BB exhaust that places it above AWE, Fabspeed or Milltek.
Wow... We agree... I think sound is EXTREMELY subjective... This was a lesson I learned owning 3 car audio stores... What sounds GREAT to me may sound like CRAP to someone else... Also, sound clips are very deceiving as are the claims in HP gains...
Bottom line... It's a personal decision but this is an OPEN forum where everyone has the opportunity to voice their opinion... You take all the information provided and try to make an informed decision on what to put on your CS...
I personally chose the BB because I did not like the AWE or Fabspeed based on first hand knowledge... I did not have the opportunity to listen to the Milltek but I also thought the Milltek was a bit too pricey...
I'm happy with the BB... My installer who owns a Cayman CS and a 997S likes it... My son likes it and most of all the WIFE likes it which is always a good thing if future enhancements are planned!!!
I talked to Borla several time and they do NOT offer one for a CS yet nor will they willing to discuss when they will. I am sure they are working on it.
I had a Borla Race (aka Sport) on my MINI and loved it. It was one of the few Catbacks that made significant power gains. They made two versions, the street which was mildly louder than stock and the sport.
I've been holding off buying a catback until I hear/see the numbers for the PSE and Borla ... maybe supersprint (which is usually more espensive but quality).
BTW, as Kman says, sounds ... you got to hear in person or at least get comparitive DB readings from the same distance with the same equipment. The borla sound was much deeper than any Miltek (also well known in the MINI world).
BB
I decided on the BB system also. Looks much cleaner and I also like the true duel exhust. Also $700.00 less then the others.
Bull how did you get a state tag with the Porsche club?
