Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i read a article on putting silicone grease on or around coil packs to stop moisture when changing plugs, was wondering where you put the grease :dont know: is it between plug and coil pack any ideas

POST 2Original post

Hmm, not sure I like the sound of that... Grease and high voltage could be interesting...

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

some one must know hav read it on here before severall times but never actually found out where it goes, some one must know

POST 4Original post

The more you plaster them in silicone grease the better, all over the shaft to prevent condesation break down, in the connector to the loom and where it joins the plug. You should use approx 50g of grease on 6 pencil coils if you do it right. Silicone grease will not cause any issues, it will prevent them. Also can be used on squeaky door rubbers, sunroof slide rails, all electric connectors etc

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

grease do you mean basically inside where plug goes into/and outside and on elecktrical conections yes

POST 6Original post

The idea is to prevent the contacts getting corroded (either initially by oxidation, then by arcing). Think of the mess you can get on the contacts in everyday battery compartments of remote controls, torches etc. The silicone grease prevents both water and air to the contacts. So smother both ends at their respective connectors. Additionally, it is also useful to coat the shaft. This does help ward off environmental fatigue (leading to cracking), but more importantly it prevents surface water (condensation or otherwise) causing arcing/short circuiting down the shaft to the engine case via surface conduction. The coil packs are generating many thousands of volts for the spark plugs (about 20,000V). You don't want to give it any reason to send that electricity to the wrong place or attenuate the flow with high resistance oxidation.

Ok, this is the better write up... I had had 3 glasses of my favourite vino when I wrote mine!
