Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'fuse' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'fuse' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check little manual contained inside the lid' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Check the little manual contained inside the lid to find the one for the stereo (its some like C8 or D8 if I recall but could be wrong).

If not pull the radio out and check for a lose wire or cable.

When I attached jump leads the stereo 'reset' and then went totally black before coming on as normal.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

has anyone had any issues with the stereo fitted to their 996, mine won't switch on, I'm hoping its a fuse, but if it isn't has anyone paid to have theirs repaired?
Probably the fuse. There are two which will affect its operation though from memory one of these also controls the ignition so unless the car won't start its not that one. Check the little manual contained inside the lid to find the one for the stereo (its some like C8 or D8 if I recall but could be wrong).

Finally if all else fails and it seems the stereo is broken I have a Porsche CR22 which I am sure I can reach an accommodation with you on!
What year is your car? upto 02 or 02 onwards
What is the full stereo spec? Amp, CDR22, CDR23 etc??
Later cars support MOST-bus which can be more complex.
Andrew.... how much for the CDR22 and have you got the code?? I am interested, I only have CR22 + 6 stack in mine.

..interesting turn of events.., I noticed at the time of the stereo packin in that the stereo display was still slightly lit lit up...so over the 2 days it drained the battery and the car wouldn't start. When I attached jump leads the stereo 'reset' and then went totally black before coming on as normal. I can only assume a software problem where the unit drained power until the flat battery did a power cycle on it and allowwed it to work properly again. Saved me 1300 quid for a 2 din pioneeer!!!!!
