Suggestion
i'm tempted by a sports cat for my 718 but most (not all) of the exhaust manufacturers recommend a tune alongside it, which i'm reluctant to do

I would want to change the exhaust and I’m not sure if that’s possible with extended warranty.

You're basing that on an OPC replacing the turbos with new units and their high labour rates.

Suggestion
As others have said the turbo charger can probably be rebuilt at a fraction of the cost but OPCs just replace the whole turbo charger unit if they detect an issue.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I’m considering buying a 991.1 Turbo s.
I was planning to use hartechs warranty and maintenance plan, but they don’t offer it on the turbo s.
Would a 2015 991.1 turbo s be a money pit it compared to a 992 c2s?
What are the big maintenance jobs that should have been done on a 2015 Turbo s?
Who is best for PPI in London?
Advice appreciated.
Thanks
Earliest cars were 2013 and are eligible for OPC warranty up to (I think) 100,000 miles and 15 years old. Carbon brakes worth checking , as are turbos. The 997.2 turbos and 991.1 turbo s share the same engine. For the 991.2 turbo s fuel system was upgraded as well as the coating for the pistons and liners and  car play available too. If you can stretch to the gen 2 worth it but of not I'd always tend to buy any turbo s with an official warranty. They're reliable but the warranty worth its weight in gold if you have a fault.
We've had about £15k of warranty work in 6 years and 35k miles (faulty turbos).
15 year old is great. I thought warranty was limited to 10.
It’s bills like that what scare me a bit. Seems a lot for turbo replacements.
Don’t mind the maintenance costs but I remember reading Turbo S can give you the odd eye watering bill.
Repairs via indy network are generally a lot less, but without the warranty, you have to pay for them out of your pocket.
If you didn't have a warranty you'd get the turbos rebuilt by a turbo specialist and pay a fraction of the OPC cost (they would just fit new turbos) hence the large bills

I would want to change the exhaust and I’m not sure if that’s possible with extended warranty.
I’d be happy with with moderate bills which are to be expected with this type of car, but not £20k plus for a pair of turbos.
GF is trying her best to convince me to buy a 992s, but I’ve read Turbo issues are a lot more common on them than Turbo s.
I like the 992 but they are very quiet.
We’ve had warranty on ours from new. Stuck a Europipe 50 cel sports exhaust from brand new. Hatfield, Reading and Swindon OPC have never complained on warranty claim. As long as they believe the modification hasn’t caused the claim you’re fine. We’ve not remapped ours. Just the after market exhaust which I think the OPCs prefer too!
This turbo s model very reliable. You have to be unlucky to have a failure but when you do for buttons in comparison to repair costs get the warranty!

If you intend to keep the GT4 I wouldn't be put off. Apparently there is flat spot at circa 5500rpm which can be mapped out...
I'd happily map a 991 turbo s but there's absolutely no need its such a rocket ship out of the box. I genuinely can not understand why you'd want to remap a 991 turbo s. It is anti social fast a to b. I do not like being in the thing when other half driving scares me witless. First week she had hers up at 203 mph
Beauty of Europipe's sports exhausts for turbo 911s is they do not to be remapped. Plug and play.

I called 911 Virgins and they said th 991 Turbo S is reliable. However there is a known issue with the oil feed for the turbos which he said would be costly. He said that anyone buying one should find out if the work has been done. I did not go into details but I am sure there is plenty out there. Apart from that the story is they are rock solid.

You're basing that on an OPC replacing the turbos with new units and their high labour rates. In the real world Indys survive by fixing and rebuilding stuff for a third of OPC labour rates. That said if you don't have an appetite for risk or want to the easy quick fix option get the extended warranty and tie yourself into OPC servicing and maintenance.

There’s no known issue with 991.2 turbo s oil feed. Whoever you spoke to is mistaking for 991.2 cooking 3.0 models which have this issue.
The turbos themselves in the 991.2 turbo s are made of exotic material like titanium alloy etc and can fail. They’re run quite hard out of the factory and can do trick things like keep boost and continue to spin while braking etc (electronic brake boosting) so if you drive your turbo s like you stole it all the time they can fail. As others have said the turbo charger can probably be rebuilt at a fraction of the cost but OPCs just replace the whole turbo charger unit if they detect an issue.
The turbo s 911 Virgin have for sale in sapphire blue looks stunning. OP you should have a look at it for sure.

Hi @IMI A - can you shed some more light on what you mean’t by "Whoever you spoke to is mistaking for 991.2 cooking 3.0 models which have this issue". Are you suggesting there is a known issue with the 3.0 engine on the 992s and the 991.2 engine is solid?

The problems seem to be with the 991.2 (I think you have misread IMA's post).
Google and you will find a number of threads for UK and US.

Nope: What @IMI A said is "There’s no known issue with 991.2 turbo s oil feed. Whoever you spoke to is mistaking for 991.2 cooking 3.0 models which have this issue"
As far as I am aware the oil feed issue is with the 3.0 991.2 T, C, C2S, C4S, GTS. Not the 3.8 991.2 turbo and turbo s as far as I understand. Happy to be corrected
