Not cheap film, fully guaranteed for as long as I'm likely to have the car and they'll carry it out in a clean garage setup they have.

Given I like the car as is, I'm loathe to make any drastic aesthetic changes, particularly if it's in the 'Max Power' mould

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'd be interested to know if anyone has had the rear quarters and rear window tinted? I'm curious after looking at a friend's car (not a Porsche) and seeing how well it works with a black car. Given I like the car as is, I'm loathe to make any drastic aesthetic changes, particularly if it's in the 'Max Power' mould  The motivation behind this is privacy aspect, not having a great deal of storage space means on occasion things will be sat on the back seats and I'd prefer they weren't in plain sight.

POST 2Original post

My car is silver and had tinted rear side windows when I bought it. Its ok, quite like the look but wouldnt miss them. Not sure how much privacy you will get. There is a rear window.

POST 3Original post

I was thinking about this too, anyone got any pics and is it DIYable?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've had a quote back from a recommended company in the North East, same people who've done a friends Mondeo. Not cheap film, fully guaranteed for as long as I'm likely to have the car and they'll carry it out in a clean garage setup they have. The cost for rear quarters and screen, £140. Doesn't sound too bad but I'd really need to see what it looks like on the 911 before even considering it.

POST 5Original post

I'd guess it would work better on the Porsche than most cars where tinting the rear windows only, in order to stay legal, results in a very van-like appearance.

POST 6Original post

I'm just in the process of developing a website for a Tinting and ECU Mapping company as it happens. The materials are quite impressive actually and it's surprising what they can do. There appears to be a few advantages, but then that's what the site says anyway. I've not had it done myself and if I were to have it fitted to my car I think it is more suited to a 4 x 4 or the "family" car particularly if you have a baby or very small children. Just a personal thing really. What is impressive are the Domestic Films and the benefits it has if you use it on your property!

POST 7Original post

Is it DIYable? Yes, but dont expect perfect results. It can be bloody tricky to get the cut perfect. What is the legal limit here in the uk? Back home its 35% but given that we are also allowed to tint the drivers side windows, it means you get enough privacy to make it worthwhile. Did i read somewhere that you cannot tint the drivers and passengers windows here in the uk? Anyway here are a few links to help you if you go down the DIY road. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiYLsBCfjXw&feature=channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0e_F3TacPI you get the idea.

POST 8Original post

The drivers windows and the windscreen can be tinted, but very lightly only. Speaking as a biker too, I consider this a Very Good Thing
