Suggestion

I should have mentioned that I used the HPS pads on track, with very disappointing results.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What are the best brake pads....the ones that don't squeek and leave little brake dust?

POST 3Original post

2nd the Mintex Red Box, but they do have some dust. No squeal. Also consider EBC Green Stuff. Even less dust, but a teensy bit of squeal at times. Much higher friction compound as well. They're both cheap enough to try.

POST 4Original post

Have had EBC green...too much dust. Mintex...too much metal. The best Hawk HPS.

POST 6Original post

I had the EBC reds on my XK8 NO DUST just alot of squeking for the first 1500 miles. Mostly low speed when coming to signals.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I can't stand the squeel!! Brake dust is second...I have to clean the rims anyways...but squeeling brakes are not acceptable...I don't track...but like great stopping power! So Mintex is best?? and do the brakepads come with the other parts I need to replace or do I have to order these separate?? Doing the change myself will save me about 400 bucks I guess?

POST 9Original post

To help against squeal, pick up some anti-squeak packets at the auto parts store to apply to the back of each pad. 2 packets should be enough for all four calipers. They are like $0.99/each.

POST 10Original post

Yes my vote is for Mintex silver compund as sold by Performance Products. I have used these brake pads on a 944, a 964, and now ill install them on my 2002 996 C4 black Cabriolet. My concern was to eleminate black brake pad dusting and at the same time have reasonable brake performance with no noise. Mintex delivered for me.

POST 11Original post

Thanks all....great post for a newb. I will remember when I need brakes. I too have squel at low speed...exactly as described above when coming to a stop light or stop sign...it squeels. What's funny is people associate the noise to a "crappy" car...so I get weird looks. I admit, I used to think like that until I started modding my BMW etc..and found out even high end cars squeel...even more so with race pads or BBK etc... Mintex it is!

POST 12Original post

For what purpose? Street or Track? For track, sorry you won't get a good quiet and low dust pad. For the street, switch to AXXIS pads. They are extremely quiet and have no where near the dust of the OEM pads. As a warning, these are not race pads. They will work well on the street and for Auto-X events. They have very high cold friction so they work well even cold, but they will have noticeable fade if you run them hard in DEs.

POST 13Original post

02 Carrera - Which AXXIS pads are you referring to? Metal Masters? Thats the only kind that I could see on-line that make both front and rears applications.

POST 15Original post

Almost got killed by metal masters on a 928....they will not stop a 928

POST 16Original post

Mintex red box pads here....work great with a lot less dust than OEM pads. I recommend getting new plastic inserts (between pad and brake piston) to ensure no squeal. Ask me how I know

POST 17Original post

You, too, huh? I think Metal Masters are too "old school". The newer compounds with carbon/kevlar/ceramic in them are much better.

POST 18Original post

I have had nothing but dust with Hawk HPS, both on the 996 and on my S2000. I won't buy them again. Whatever you do, put a little anti-squeel gel on the back of the pads. It's cheap at the auto parts store and should help the noise.

POST 19Original post

Strange? Have Hawks on both 911's and 0 dust...nada...zippo

POST 20Original post

As they say, YMMV. I should have mentioned that I used the HPS pads on track, with very disappointing results.

POST 21Original post

Yes, would not consider them for the track . I use carbotech for that.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the replies...I guess Mintex it is...and the silver ones give me silver brake dust I guess..which will be less visible..perfect! Best place to buy anyone??

POST 23Original post

i got mine at automotion.com. they produce less dust but don't expect the best braking. i would say it is at least on par with oem pads though.

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Carlos....what do you mean with "not the best braking"???? I don't track but like to corner and drive my P hard.....

POST 25Original post

it doesn't have the same bite as a BHP or hawk pad. these pads have a higher cold bite than the mintex but produce dust. i said the mintex is at least on par with oem.

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks Carlos....how's the squeel on the BHP or HAWK??
