I couldn't wait any longer.
A couple of weeks ago I ordered a set of RUF aluminum pedals (dead pedal included) for my CS. My Porsche dealer's technicians did the same-day installation and I've attached a photo. The North Olmsted, OH Porsche dealership was kind enough to provide me with a free loaner for the day. This time it was a Mercedes C280 4MATIC - great for our "wonderful" Cleveland winters. When I had my Porsche chrome exhaust pipe installed some time ago, the loaner was a Cayenne S. Great dealership!
The attached photo of the RUF pedals also includes a shot of my filthy WeatherTech winter floor mats. Credit that to the Cleveland salt and slush. The mats - by the way - fit perfectly right out of the box and no trimming was required. If you drive your Porsche in the winter, WinterTech makes excellent mats. Of course they smelled faintly "rubbery" when they were installed, but that smell quickly passed and was never too noxious.
I got the pedals by calling Mark Plummer at RUF directly. It practically goes without saying that he was helpful, knowledgeable, professional and a pleasure to talk to.
Get this ... Mark's done
206 MPH
in a 650-hp biturbo RUF Rt12 on a UT stretch of PUBLIC ROAD that included its share of "whoop-de-doos" while driving in a police-sanctioned road rally. In the rally, and immediately following Mark's run in an attempt to beat Mark's time, a $1.3 million Ferrari Enzo (that's $1.0 million more than the RUF Rt12) was destroyed by a driver who didn't abide by pre-race warnings of the several rises in the road ahead.
There is an
EXCELLENT
Wall Street Journal article with pictures of this event on the RUF Auto Centre website under the "About Us" tab. Then click on the "News" link. It's the August 2006 Wall Street Journal article.
My cost for the RUF pedals was $250 for the three-piece set and $189 for the dead pedal (foot rest). Shipping was $20. Installation by the Porsche technicians was a bit more than I expected at $185 but they did an excellent first-class job and they'll do all my future mods.
Be forewarned ... the pedal set looks so good that it has made me desire more RUF stuff. Their product is totally top rate. Even the Porsche technician agreed. He said their pedal set is better than any other he's installed.
By the way, aside from the cosmetic improvement, with the RUF pedals it's much easier to do "heel-and-toe" downshifts if desired.
The stock Porsche brake pedal pad and clutch pedal pad are removed for the installation of the RUF pedals. The RUF dead pedal and gas pedal are installed on top of the existing Porsche pieces. All screws are included. RUF also has pedals for tiptronic Caymans.
I plan on several additional interior RUF cosmetic mods in the near future. After I have my speed yellow CS's wheels powder-coated in black later this month, then I'm getting a few more small RUF interior things: GT3 sport driver's seat, RUF door sill insert, RUF floor mats with "RUF" in yellow and a RUF gear shift knob. I'll take some pictures when I get them.
RUF engine mods will have to wait until later ... after my Farnbacher Loles carbon fiber pieces in the summer.
Summary: The RUF pedals are extremely nice and they greatly assist in heel-and-toe downshifts.
HIGHLY
recommended.
Oh ... lastly ... Mark told me that RUF just finished modifying a customer's CS. They put in a supercharger (kompressor) and the 3.4L engine puts out AT LEAST 450hp. Any takers?
