Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry if this is a re-post, but... Does anyone know if the OEM GT3 rear spoiler and decklid is made of fiberglass or something else? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

No expert but it is fibreglass I believe... Or some other composite. Why do you want to know? Just curious?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Planning to do the mk2 aerokit and I know that the aftermarket rear decklid and spoiler are fiberglass, but wasn't sure how it came OEM.

POST 4Original post

ahhh gotcha keep in mind a factory oem wing wll not need work to make it fit while an aftermarket one always will!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You're right. What is frustrating is that Porsche does not sell the rear decklid/wing separate from the GT3 front bumper. Maybe I need to check with Brandywine or Sunset. They seem to be more accomodating to the enthusiasts.

POST 6Original post

Factory tacos are made from fallen UFO's that have special lightning abilities and thrust enhancers. THE TACO IS KING!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I went to a Porsche dealer today and checked out the 997 GT3. They told me that the rear spoiler on that thing is carbon fiber. I'm a little skeptical because 5 minutes later, they gave me a 997 Tequipment book and told me that everything should fit on my narrowbody 996 with no problem.... yeah right.

POST 8Original post

The Taco wing is fiberglass. I don't know about the 997s though.

POST 9Original post

996 GT3 lid and wing is glass. RS wing carbon fiber

POST 10Original post

Frankly if it's just fibreglass, even with the additional work aftermarket would require, the savings would make up for it. Porswche has a firm belief they need to be sold as a package to balance out the aerodynamics, and that's why it is not sold seperately. Now if you get hit in the rare or the front and you need either piece seperately...

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys. I have seen the OEM GT3 polyurethane front bumper available for about $1300-$1500, OEM polyurethane sideskirts for $750-850, and the fiberglass rear decklid and wing (not sure if OEM) for about $1200-1400. The GT3 wing will definitely be the last mod of all mods. Now, I'm curious what the weight difference between the fiberglass and the metal decklid/spoiler is.
