My brother just picked up a new 08 CS, and after driving his car I noticed a big difference in clutch pedal feel in his vs my 07 CS (11k miles). His is soft and easy to drive and mine is very stiff, and its pretty big night and day difference..
Anyone know if porsche has made some changes to the 08 thus the difference? or one of our car is not right and possibly needs to be checked?
Clutch effort often changes with wear. In my experience it will get heavier just like you described.
That's strange, in my experience the clutch feel gets lighter and more loose as it wears...
Does your brother notice the same difference?
I would have both cars checked out....I've never driven a 2008; but a few 2006 and 2007's and the clutches were all stiff and springy like I expect from a sports car.
I've driven six
Caymans
so far, five CSs (06, 07, and 08), and one base car (07), all with less than 3K miles, and the clutches of the CS cars all felt pretty much the same. Not very stiff, easy to feel engagement point, and easy to drive very smoothly, especially with the AC off. Actually, I've noticed more variance in brake feel between cars than clutch feel.
I would have the dealer take a look at your car. You may have a clutch problem.
On Porsches with hydraulic clutches (G50 on), the pedal definitely stiffens as the clutch wears. As this is gradual over time, you may not have noticed the change in your car until you drove the new one.
Why? What causes the stiffening?
Not sure, but over the years I bought two Porsche's with stiff clutches (1988
911
and 2002
986
S), and both had to have the clutches replaced. Oddly enough, neither exhibited any slippage or issues with the clutch action. I read somewhere that the throwout bearing is what causes the stiffness, but don't know that for a fact.
As I was also told from my dealer, our cluthes tend to get heavier as they wear. They had another Cs in the workshop which they were replacing the clutch since it got too heavy. The car was not in use for a while and had a lot less mileage than my Cs(48000Klm). Mine still fills Ok for the time being and does not need replacing. I have tested it with a 6,000 Klm GT3 and that one felt like
feather
weight compared to the Cs.
