Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Works great! Being a contrarian by nature I did not hook up my battery tender before leaving on a 34 day trip as I feel I shouldn't have to do that to a brand new car. Well, I got home this evening and it started right up. Just as it should.

POST 3Original post

It was not locked. Next long trip I'll lock it and see how it lasts.

POST 5Original post

My car was left locked in a storage lot for 30 days and it started right up.

POST 6Original post

Terrific but as they say YMMV depending on the condition of your battery when you leave it. It is about $300 to replace if you damage it and quick charging will damage it but if you have the $$ to spare keep pushing the envelope. I know of several that failed similar time periods but they don't like to post the failures publicly for some reason. Unfortunately there is no tried and true exactness and what worked one time might not the next.

POST 7Original post

I was out of commission for 3 months due to injury. I am an expert on this subject. If you lock the door you are screwed. 5 days max for me. Mine went for 3 weeks unlocked and started right up. 4 weeks- dead as a doornail. Suncoast- (sponsor )has a good price on the factory battery charger. Better safe than sorry. This is just one of those little tradeoffs in a very nearly perfect car. 300 bucks for a battery???

POST 8Original post

To each his own but I don't accept that. Had mine not started it would have gone back to the dealer for repair as I would consider it defective. I have owned a lot of cars in my life and never had a concern about whether or not it would start after sitting for only a week or two. Before my CS arrived I had stored my sisters new MB in my garage for five months locked, alarm on...it started right up in spring as any car should.

POST 9Original post

Remember, when it's locked, after 7 days, it turns off all the fancy electronic stuff that could drain the battery quicker. So locked/unlocked shouldn't matter significantly. Leave the key in, however, you're dead meat.

POST 10Original post

Just to add to the collective experience... 2006 Cayman S. 11,000 miles. OEM battery. Left locked for 11 weeks, alarm on. Started right up, no problem.
