Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've ordered the BOSCH coils and plugs, I figured it's probably a good idea to get both of them done at the same time.
Leading evidence: 'good idea' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'good idea' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace every three years' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Plugs are 36,000 mile items, but I personally would also replace every three years, which ever is the sooner.

Is it a good idea to change the spark plugs at the same time?
Use "twin spark" - ie two spark plugs per cylinder)

(that may have not been such a silly question as engines did/do use "twin spark" - ie two spark plugs per cylinder)
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Gents

Do you guys favour BERU or BOSCH?
Is it a good idea to change the spark plugs at the same time? Also there are several brands of spark plug - is one preferred over the other?
Thanks,
Dan
In theory they are equal specification.
However, I think you will find most people rate the BOSCH higher.
You need two per wheel. That's eight ... sorry only joking.
SIX CYLINDERS = SIX PLUGS = SIX COIL PACKS
(that may have not been such a silly question as engines did/do use "twin spark" - ie two spark plugs per cylinder)
You should get your mechanic to liberally grease the new coil packs with silicone grease - along shaft and anywhere it makes a connection with plug or power leads (stops moisture ingress and corrosion and prevents arching):
You can get the 50g tube from Maplin for £3.99 (or others - google SILICONE GREASE SERVISOL)

Plugs are 36,000 mile items, but I personally would also replace every three years, which ever is the sooner.
If yours are only two years old etc, then the choice is yours, but I guess you already have the labour to get to them, so take that into account as the mechanic is already there.
Brands: NGK, Beru, BOSCH - again personally, for the sake of a couple of quid BOSCH.
Thanks GT4, I did feel really stupid asking the question. I'm a self confessed thickie at anything mechanical.
I've ordered the BOSCH coils and plugs, I figured it's probably a good idea to get both of them done at the same time.
I've read the advice re the silicon grease elsewhere, is there a particular brand I should buy or is it all the same?
Thanks again,
Dan
I guess grease is grease!
(As long as it is silicone, not lard. Save that for the cross-channel swim!)
The brand I have used is:
(and you help the economy as they are based and manufactured in SOMERSET!)
