When I had the cam washer changed out the garage (local indie) mentioned that the spark plug tubes were corroded and they'd recommend changing them at some point in future.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just joined up the forum as I've recently bought a 1999 996 Carrera 4 cab. Have hankered after a 911 since I was knee high and now just taken plunge - loving the car. I did however have a small oil leak (cam tensioner washer) which I had replaced 2 weeks ago. I've now discovered another leak on garage floor which I've attached pics of. Looking at pics does anyone know what may be the culprit - to me it looks like fluid coming from rear suspension?? When I had the cam washer changed out the garage (local indie) mentioned that the spark plug tubes were corroded and they'd recommend changing them at some point in future. Can anyone point me as to where these tubes are? Apologies for thick questions, sure there will be more Alan...

POST 2Original post

The rear shock absorber looks very wet, and I expect it is leaking and dripping down onto the anti-roll bar drop link. Unless it's something above the shocker which is leaking........

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The fluid is light brown (oil coloured) - although it doesn't seem as thick as the oil I was getting leaking from the cam tensioner washer. Havent had much chance to have a good look around, will have a better look tonight after work. Hoping its nothing too major.......

POST 5Original post

i just had my tubes done, o rings on either end, mine chucked out oil after changing the old thick stuff, kit for one side cost me about £40 from strauss

POST 6Original post

would defo say you have shock absorber problems there and tis leaking down onto drop link as suggested by richard..

POST 7Original post

The spark plug tubes are way forward of your leak when looking at that photo (which is actually further back, if you know what I mean).

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for replies, just had it into local independant on way to work this morning and they've confirmed that its the shock thats leaking. Most likely get the car booked in and get the spark plug tubes and shock done in one hit. Cheers Alan...
