My rear hatch lid is slightly out of alignment. It is barely noticeable but it seems to be making the trunk extra hard to close. My hatch used to close as normally described by everyone, but now it will not close when dropped with the doors open, and to close it with one hand when the doors are closed, I need to put a lot of force on it. So as I further looked into the problem, I discovered that the bolts attaching the hatch to the arms shifted slightly. On the drivers side, you can see where the bolt used to be when it
was painted, and now an unpainted portion of the circle that was covered is showing.
If you take a look at the picture attachment below, the bolts in question are number 6 and 7. The inner bolt is what worries me. From the diagram it looks like it goes in a channel, but it doesn't. So it might not be as simple as loosening the one outer bolt, repositioning the hatch and tightening the bolt. If both bolts need to be loosened, then some interior trim needs to come off which I have no idea how to do.
Has anyone dealt with this or does anyone have an suggestions or tips? Of course I will have to give it a try before I start taking trim apart, but I don't have the right torx driver yet. Thanks in advance!
Edit: Can't get the attachment to load just yet. Its page 131 of the USA parts catalog.
It is under warranty so I'm not sure why you would tackle a DIY that could make it worse and remove it from warranty. Tip - use the warranty you paid for first.
Yea I should have mentioned, the car was rear ended and fixed. It went back to the body shop a second time, but I didn't notice this until I got the car back yesterday again. I was over at the dealer today but not with the
cayman
and they said to take it back to the body shop because it also needs a little clip to be put in that is on back order. I can deal with the little clip myself instead, and I don't really want to take it back to the body shop again because they are getting annoyed with it, and I would rather adjust the hatch the way I want and I know I would be more gentle with everything than the body shop.
You are right though. Probably what I should do is when I go to get the little clip from the parts guy, ask them to take a look at the hatch and adjust it. I just figured if its something easy I could do, then I would like to do that instead of leaving the car for a day. Also, the car needs to go to the dealer in about 30 days to get some clear film put on the new bumper, but I don't want to live with the annoying trunk for another 30 days.
I guess moral of the story is getting rear ended is a HUGE headache due to all of the little details. Thanks for reading these stupid posts if you did.
