Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

However, I did get pulled up by someone for not having had an oil change when I was offeing a car for sale (car had only done 3000 miles since a major) so there is a case for just having it done for the service book and check there's nothing more sinister going on.

Suggestion

Personally I think servicing for the sake of it every 12 months serves little purpose (unless you're using the car on a track)but then again, I used to do it religously on the 3.3 just so the history was there.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have had my 1999 996 for nearly a year and done roughly 5,000miles. The car had a full servive when bought Dec 08, should I service it at 12 months or leave it a little longer. Any advice please.........

POST 2Original post

Officially it should be done at 12 months or 12K miles whichever is sooner if you want to keep a fully stamped up service history from the main dealer.

POST 3Original post

There are three types of Service according to Porsche:- 1) Major Service 24,000 Miles 2) Minor Service 12,000 Miles 3) Annual Service Annual is really for your sort of thing, where you have not done enough miles to fill the 12,000 criteria etc Just up to you

POST 4Original post

Worth bearing in mind that the annual service doesn't actually involve anything more than an inspection - no parts are changed.

POST 5Original post

Personally I think servicing for the sake of it every 12 months serves little purpose (unless you're using the car on a track)but then again, I used to do it religously on the 3.3 just so the history was there. I can also see the argument that for older cars it pays to have someone cast an informed eye over the oily bits. However, I did get pulled up by someone for not having had an oil change when I was offeing a car for sale (car had only done 3000 miles since a major) so there is a case for just having it done for the service book and check there's nothing more sinister going on.

POST 6Original post

Ah interesting, I thougth it at least included and oil change, I would do that.

POST 8Original post

+1, but I'd be surprised if anyone had gone to an OPC for an Annual and come away without any additional work!

POST 9Original post

-1 I have changed my mind. On further consideration, assuming you could keep you hands in your pocket (when they offer to "fix" things), at £125 is this not the cheapest option to get a Boxster or Cayenne for the day? (I assume booking your car in for a replacement key fob battery doesn't warrant a courtesy car) Just push a jalopy Pork onto the lot and drive off in something shiny for the day. Got to be worth it just to pull the girls (sorry I seem to have lapsed back into the Exelzion vibe)
