Day 14 of the "new car" experience...
1st post--but I hope you'll appreciate that I've done some research...
Have read Rainer's article on the dynamic damper, found multiple references to the trunk latching mechanism; even found tips on adjustable feet at the corners of the deck lid...
My '08 CS was manufactured in Mar-08, and exhibits all of the classic signs/symptoms of the dreaded "trunk clunk."
Outside of the Voluntary Service Inspection (W615), is there anything
definitive
that I might cite which would expedite a "fix" at the servicing dealership?
Anyone know whether Porsche has implemented a (any) design change?
Thanks!
Chris
I was under the impression that a design change was implemented, but my June 08 with PASM will occasionally give a clunk over a sharp bump. Not enough to bother me though.
Thanks SCOPPOLA...Good to have another data point.
Mine also equipped w/PASM (forgot to mention), but even over medium-sized gaps/bumps in road, I get 2-3 cycles of rattle (sounds like it really
could
be a misadjusted latching mechanism).
I'm headed to dealership tomorrow morning for some PIWS coding, and plan to have them look at it.
I will post the dealer's suggested course of action, and inquire whether-or-not Porsche has (in fact) made any design changes...
More to come.
Chris
I have an 08 built in Nov. 07 and haven't had a hint of trunk clunk yet
'08 owner here w/PASM, build date of Oct. 2007. No clunks yet over the horrible NYC roads...
Great avatar AV8TUR!
Welcome to the site.
Update (post dealer visit) :
"Could not duplicate." Service manager said all Caymans experience some noise in the rear hatch area. Asked me to schedule a follow-up appointment, so that he could ride with me to "experience" the same thing I was.
I know a "thump" from a low-freq rattle/bouncing latch mechanism. Question is...Do they?
I hope this isn't a premonition of things to come...
Thanks for the compliment on the avatar PistolPete13...in this case "my other car IS (or at least was) a JET."
mine is built 04 2008 no clunk
I have a 2007 CS, which had the trunk clunk. I took it in a while back for service, and they stated that 2 mechanics could not replicate the problem. So I asked to drive with the service manager, and within 2 minutes he heard it and agreed.
I got it serviced twice, the first time, it helped, but only by 10-15%, this was back in March of 2008. Finally, I took it back again in August and they replaced the metal weight kit again, now I am 95% clunk free! They mentioned that they did not do anything different than the first try, they replaced the same things a second time. No idea what gives, but maybe a faulty initial install by the dealer?
Good luck!
NONICK...Now THAT'S an avatar!
My '08 is 4 weeks old, with a pretty severe "trunk clunk" or as I call it, hatch rattle. The car is now at the dealer, I did print out the TSB on the hatch weights and gave it to them, and they are doing this as well as some rubber spacers.
My car has PSS9's and aftermarket wheels, but so far no complaints from the dealer that the stiffer suspension is the cause (it isn't).
I get the car back tommorow so we'll see if it's fixed.
March 2008 build here, lots of interior rattles but
no
clunk.
darbikrash---How'd it turn out?
The TSB...WM537949? (Never thought to bring that with me to the dealership and INSIST that they perform this MA.) If this isn't the one you're referencing, would you please attach/reference the one you used?
Thx
Not so good.
Rattle totally gone on the way home from the dealer, but back again in full force this morning.
Reveiw of the dealer repair order shows 2 1/2 pages of things fixed, adjusted, shimmed, diassembled etc.
The worst part about it? The loaner car (for two days) was a Pontiac Vibe. I never new such a car existed.
