Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, my PCM radio unit has developed a problem. I'm driving, the screen suddenly goes blank, buttons stay illuminated, no sound. Porsche screen comes on, goes off again, buttons illumination goes off. Periodically the Porsche screen comes on again and goes off. All this time the mini computer screen states which radio channel I was listening to at the time it went off. Switching the unit off and on makes no difference, other than the small screen saying 'radio off'. When I stop the engine, remove the key, reinsert and restart the engine the radio unit operates normally. Problem reoccurs after a short while. I read somewhere this is an ignition switch issue but surely this would just turn the unit on and off, not make it do what i've described? 2003 996 C4S Tiptronic.

It's either a poor connection with the 12 volt feed .. which i doubt or a problem with the Pcm .. which i have seen .. a garage job im afraid for them to diagnose as short of hooking up a voltmeter and trying to watch it whilst driving and the fault happening is not advisable .
