I have had this happen today. Its a 987.1 2005 plate
I cannot release the ignition key from the car.
The car is driving and running normally otherwise.
I tried to find some information about what it might be.
I read that it might be due to a flat battery - car is running normally and is used every other day.
I have uploaded a video of the problem.

So the video shows move selector to P position - trying that many times and N position
This doesnt help.
Was left with no option to put the rod in the fuse box through the release hole here - which then released the key and allowed me to lock and arm the alarm as per normal.
Now to release the key everytime I need to release via this way above...
Does anyone have any suggestions ?
Low voltage? Could there be corrosion behind the switch?
Open the fuse box which is on the left of the pedals, you will find a tool for releasing the key in the fuse box cover itself.
Which is basically a rod to be inserted in the key switch to release.
Maybe it's due to low
battery
or stuck for some other reason.
Sorry not sure how to get the youtube link to work

heres the video link again
yup at the moment - I have a small screwdriver that I use to release the key from the ignition but im trying to figure out if i need to replace the ignition barrel or the ignition switch
It could also be the switch on the shifter that tells the car it's in Neutral or Park.
Not aware of this switch?
Sounds to me like a reason to keep driving . . .
I have the same issue here. What is the solution for this problem. I have a
Cayman 987.1
2008
I still have this problem. Is there anyone with a solution?
Probably a failing lock cylinder. You'll need to take it to a good Porsche shop (indie or dealer).
Good luck.

It might be a sign of a weak
battery
. Try hooking up a charger or tender to see if that helps.
