Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

2009 Boxster S I replaced the passenger push rod (plastic cap broken on original + the rod was really bent). I tried to get the new push rod the same length as the original. The clamshell stays open by 1/2" when the top is down. When the top is up, the clamshell stays open by 1". It's fairly even across the clamshell both opened and closed. I've tried shortening and lengthening the push rod but it doesn't get any better (it can get worse). I've measured the starting point of the transmission on both sides, and they're close enough for govt work. So it doesn't appear the trans is off a tooth. The guide pins in the clamshell are lined up properly. The driver's push rod arm looks a bit wonky and may need replacing. It makes a bit of a noise when lowering the top. I don't want to adjust the driver's push rod until I know what I'm doing, as it's my baseline. I've done a lot of searching but haven't found anything about adjusting the clamshell. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Update: I replaced the left push rod. Turns out the original was a bit bent. Clamshell closes fine now both up and down. View attachment 204729 Guess the moral of the story is to replace them in pairs. If one is bent, chances are the other is too. Ordered the replacement from ebay. Took forever to travel from VA to NE - 8 DAYS! Think the caravan from Guatemala could have gotten it here faster. But all's well that ends well.
