Suggestion

I'd start with the clutch switch since its easy to jumper it to see if the situation improves (or easy/cheap to simply replace).

If that doesn't help, then I'd replace the electric portion of the ignition switch (depending on your flexibility, it can be a bit of a PITA).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, i picked up my new to me boxster 1999 2.5L Everything works fine, although sometimes i turn the key and electronics go off but no ignition. it's not the battery because i just lock, clutch in clutch out lock in unlock and boom everything works fine. doesnt seem to be consistent. what can it be? ignition switch? old keys? clutch switch? thanks!

POST 2Original post

I assume that you mean that the electronics turn on when you turn the key, but the engine won't turn over. I'd start with the clutch switch since its easy to jumper it to see if the situation improves (or easy/cheap to simply replace). If you jumper the clutch switch be sure to have the trans in neutral if its a manual 5-spd when you try to start the car! If that doesn't help, then I'd replace the electric portion of the ignition switch (depending on your flexibility, it can be a bit of a PITA).
