Hello, I was looking to buy a used cayman s, but there aren't any Caymans in michigan, so I started looking at 911s, I found a 2003 one and I liked it, but it being old and having 50k miles on it drifted me away from it.
The other day I saw a listing online on a 2006 Carrera S with 30k miles for $38000. I contacted the seller and he said he is willing to sell the car for 35000 when I asked him if it's ok to have an inspector look at it, I got this back from him :
Hi,
The car is in Wyoming. I just moved here because of my business. The car was transported so the mileage is the same. If you want to see it I can send it to your place for inspection for no extra cost. Someone owes me a favor and he will pay the shipping charges. You will receive it in max 7 days and you will have 5 days to test drive and inspect it to decide if you want to buy it or not. If you don't want to buy the vehicle then I will take care of the car and you will have no obligation. I would like to use a third party to make this transaction so you don't have to send me any money before you see and inspect the car. Let me know if you are still interested and when can we talk. Also, are you getting a loan or do you have the funds available?
Is this shady? Or does it seem legit to you guys.. I find it hard to believe somebody's willing to do such a thing with no problem...
Thanks in advance.
As long as you dont give him any money, go for it. 3rd party may be pay pal etc... which should be insured.
I think he's an honest seller... Use

to put your mind at ease and secure the transaction. I used them before. They're very convenient.
Good luck
This is what trips my trigger and makes me think its a scam. Send the money to the third party instead of him and checking how liquid you are.
:2cents:
I personally like to always be close enough where I can look at it and bring a mechanic with me if it's not CPO.
My guess is it's a scam. DO NOT send money to anyone without seeing the car first. I briefly chased a 911 with a similar story. When I offered to fly out to see it in it's current location, the deal unraveled because there never was a car to sell. Be very, very careful.
Don't send money to anyone. 3rd party or not. It feels like a scam for sure. A complete scam. Do some more research on it, VIN, ownership, current location ... I'm sure someone here has to be near it to take a look at it but my guess is that it's definitely a scam. I reads like a scam.
I agree. Scam written all over it.
This has got to be a scam! Why would anyone pay to ship the car somewhere let you drive it for a few days and hey if you don't like no problem he'll pay to re ship. No way.
TGTBT, run away FAST. :burnout:
Sounds similar to one of the Nigerian scams
Sounds like a classic escrow scam. Why risk it? While there aren't a ton of Caymans on the market, there are enough to not have to put up with any shenanigans.
I thought it is a scam too, thank you guys for the input.
The more complicated and involved the transaction process the more likely a scam. Buying and selling should be as transparent and simple as possible which protects both parties. Third party "agents", offers of free use or transportation, vehicles not located with seller, international money transfers, wire transfers for over payments with refunds are all red flags for scams.
