After a few weeks of looking I have found a CPO car in Illinois. I'm from California and wonder what impact the weather has on a
997.2
cab. The pictures look great but should I be concerned? The car has 25k miles and is an 09. I will get a PPI but should I be concerned about salt corrosion etc and impact on resale? thanks for the replys
I am in cleveland and we see more salt / snow / ice than chicago and I can tell you that most people around here that are lucky enough to own a Porsche also own other cars... especially a cab... That car is going on 3-4 years old so was only driven an average of about 6-8k per year, I would say it was someones second car and did not see snow.
Also, if it was a concern, check to see if CPO covers it. If it does, I am sure any damage would show up in your first 2 years of ownership if the car was exposed and it was a problem. My 2006 Mazda that drove in the snow started to rust through in 2011, so about 5 years of exposure is norm to have things go south.
Whoever is doing your PPI should see if the underside of the car is nice a clean or if they see corrosion. I can tell pretty easily if even a well maintained car has been driven in winter. I for one set my mistress off for her long winter's nap as soon as the first real snow comes and the road crews start putting down salt.
My CS had lived in Chicago for 5 years when I bought it. NO known corrosion. While I'm pissed that the original selling dealer didn't remove the undercarrage cosmoline that was applied for shipment, it protected all the aluminum bits of the engine, suspension, etc. It's a magnet for dirt, so it's ugly. I can't remember seeing a Porsche from the last 20 years with any rust. Have someone double check it's undercarrage in a PDI, but I wouldnt needlessly worry.
Thanks for the comments! I will have the PPI check for corrosion.
My '99 is from Chicago and was driven in winter. There is zero rust on the car. So a 997 should be good.
