I have just purchased a December 2009 Carrera with 13,000 miles on the odometer.
I did not notice that the windscreen had suffered many many marks/chips when I picked it up, as this vehicle is Porsche approved I was just wondering if I had any comeback as the dealer is not prepared to replace it at the moment. I spoke to another OPC and they believe that it should be replaced in view of the current condition. It does distract you from driving safely.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Does the car come with a new MOT?
On a side note, An MOT is a piece of paper.. A Porsche windscreen is something you look through at speeds of up to 180 mph.
It does have an MOT.
Porsche Approved should mean that the screen is in reasonable condition, please look at these photos...

The screen is heavily pitted and TBF, no surprise given the car. I would have a chat with the seller and see what their view on it is. The pitting can be a real PITA(and quite dangerous in some cases) especially when the sun is beaming its rays over the glass.
The delam is irreversible damage (water ingress into the sandwich construction). In many cases it's a result of age/defect in the glass and can sometimes be because there is water collection that area of the screen (sometimes rust from aperture damage). But on a 2009 car I would seriously doubt there is rust.
I would want the screen out and the pinchweld area checked TBH.
yep, Thanks for your advice, I will most certainly press them for that work to be carried out. :thanks:
Well, Porsche have agreed to replace the windscreen, I am now very happy with their decision.. I just hope it is fitted without problems.
 and :thanks:
The 997 is an easier screen to fit compared to its predecessor; the main thing to look for is that the screen should be recessed and not flush.
(perhaps request some images of the pinchweld once the old screen has been removed if you can't be there to see it?)
Ok, thanks, but what am I looking for on the pinchweld? rust or a split? I just think that most of that damage was from road rash and less than perfect chip repairs...
Windscreen in.. I have to say that Porsche Portsmouth have done a splendid job, and I thank them very much for it.
