I'm not sure how it was ordered, as I am not the original owner, having purchased it used from an independent dealer in Atlanta.

I’be used Leatherique for years due to excellent reputation but frankly I’ve never been that happy with it.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

On a
Cayman
. It's wood interior trim. A friend recently purchased a 2006
Cayman
, and today was the first time I laid eyes on it. It's REALLY interesting.
It's that really dark maroon/red that
Porsche
does so well, with a full-leather terra-cota interior and WOOD in the cockpit where the soft-finish paint would usually be. My friend
@PeteL Jr
said that on the build sheet - each piece of wood was listed separately with a separate charge for it. There wasn't a package for this wood - it must have been custom done...
I probably should have spent more time taking pictures - but here are a few. (These will take a few moments to load, but once they do you can zoom in on them..) the look is unbelievable...
Aside from the console being wood - the dash horizontal trim strips and cupholder-door are all the same wood, and part of the dash under the windshield (the pieces on either side of the defroster vents) are also wood.
And with the terracotta full leather - it's really something to see. I was impressed. I think Pete mentioned the car had $18,000 in options on it (some were "normal" - power seats/memory, PCM, tilt-in-reverse-mirror, heated seats, etc..) but this wood was done strictly custom it looks like. I was also quite impressed with the full-leather look.. that included leather covering the slats in the face-level HVAC vents (you can see that in the photo above.)
Talk about a "bespoke*" car - this was it. I haven't a clue how they did the console..

Beautiful! Is that a name plate at the front of the console (just behind the shifter)? I can't make it out. Exterior shots would be nice, too (hint, hint).
No nameplate that I saw - there were gloves right in front of the shifter.. no exterior shots - cloudy overcast day. Pete is a new member here - you can bug him directly
@PeteL Jr
- perhaps he can do an intro message with lots of photos of the car.

- take lots of pictures first. Your car is actually quite unique and all the other Cayman owners are going to be jealous.. (except the ones racing their Caymans.. probably.)
This is absolutely Beautiful!!!!!

Porsche
is famous for having a massive catalog of options when ordering new, especially in the mid 2000's.
Great spec. I love the terracotta interiors, the wood works beautifully with the interior. What kind of wood is that? This may be the only "exclusive manufaktur" 987 I've laid my eyes on. Is it a paint to sample exterior?
I once saw a
boxster
with similar. I remember it because the ad said the new list price was over £50,000. It had 7000 miles on the clock and it was for sale for £28000. I remember thinking that was an expensive ownership. IIRC it had custom cream leather leather trim too.
I do recall a wood trim option from back then, and even recall a few comments from the forums from people wondering who in world would option out a modern
Porsche
like a 70s station wagon
I've never seen any car with it until now. Very unique, and it looks amazing!
My 06
Boxster S
has the Makassar wood trim option (Sand Beige interior), all the dash trim strip, partial steering wheel, partial handbrake. Over the years the veneer has cracked though. I suspect the one of the previous owners had it parked outside a lot.
Cheers,
Julian
Beautiful interior - I really like terra cotta and the wood takes it up another level (although the difference between the wood on the parking brake lever and console might give me OCD issues).
@Kevin CS
, if you're referring to the "plaque" between the shifter and ashtray, that appears to be the passenger airbag light.
Thanks,
@RubyRed09CS
- I've never been in a 987, so had no idea what that plate might be. A closer look at the 2nd pic above reveals what looks like the words "Passenger Airbag Off" (in the 981 that light is in the overhead console).
My '08
Cayman
had that, it was called Macassar wood and it was on the dash strip, the gearshift and the handbrake handle. I bought the car when it was a year old and the original owner had specced it. It did show as with an option code on the order sheet but I don't have a record if it. It was one of my favorite options on that car.
I was thinking about how this car got ordered - and I'm willing to bet that it was a dealership principal's (owner) wife's car, custom ordered just for her, and probably delivered with a big red ribbon on it. That would explain the very special interior and the Tiptronic transmission. I am absolutely certain this was a special order car since no dealer would order this combination for a stock-lot vehicle. I'll have to get the VIN# from Pete and do a bit of research on it..
There's a good chance. Searching the 801 option code for Makassar shows a much darker veneer than the pictures you've shared. There's a chance it could be factory-option sycamore wood, but the grain isn't matching what I see on
Suncoast
and in your pictures.
Thanks for sharing this. I had a 99
Boxster
with the terra cotta full leather interior but not the wood trim. That is a unique match, and it's in great condition. ---- real eye candy
I have an '
06 Cayman S
that has this full wood interior treatment which indeed is listed as "Sycamore" with several separate items on the build sheet. I'm not sure how it was ordered, as I am not the original owner, having purchased it used from an independent dealer in Atlanta. It looks beautiful aside my special color leather interior, which is a very dark green that almost looks black. Someone paid more than $3K for all the wood pieces, according to the build sheet.
Sorry for the late reply but I didn’t see this until today. Hard to believe there is this much interest but thanks.
I purchased the car from Autohaus Lancaster in October 2022. It had around 29.8K on it when I picked it up. The exterior color is Carman Red Metallic, interior is Special Leather Terracotta. The original order sheet shows it was sold May 1, 2006, for $77K. The wood trim is Sycamore and it all added up to a $2,540 option. It lived its entire life in Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh until I brought it to NJ. Though I have lusted after a
Porsche
for most of my adult life, this is my first one. I found it searching for a
Cayman
on my
iPad
one night. When I saw the pictures, I had to go see it and when I saw it, I couldn’t walk away. I had been looking for one for about a year and had never seen this color combination. I’m looking forward to miles of smiles.
I have known Don for several years. We have a mutual interest in riding
BMW
motorcycles. I currently have a K 1200 RS and a K 75. The K 75 was owned by Don several years ago. I look forward to meeting some of the other local members of Planet 9 in the future.
FWIW, not sure I'm adding anything to this thread, but my 2008
Cayman
has the sycamore package as well, but only the shift knob, hand brake, and trim strip along the dash. I do know a sycamore steering wheel exists (saw one on e-bay for $1500! -- not sure if it is the same as the one pictured in post #21 of this thread) but I had never seen the "soft painted" console in wood too. Impressive. My car has very few options, but I didn't care, because it had those lovely sycamore bits that really put it over the top. I am the second owner and bought it pretty much because of those, and the unique Macadamia color.
Definitely makes the interior POP. The special leather terracotta package is also incredible. Together they convinced me to buy it. Question, anyone have a recommendation on a leather treatment? I purchased Leather Conditioner from Jay Leno's garage. I haven't tried it yet, but it was recommended by a friend.
I’be used Leatherique for years due to excellent reputation but frankly I’ve never been that happy with it. Doesn’t seem to do anything. Maybe it helps keep supple but never seems to improve look or feel of leather in any of my cars.
By the way, photo of my Sycamore package (802 option code):
My '
06 Cayman S
has the sycamore and I do have the code for each piece and it's not an overall option you have to option each interior piece separately.
