Hi, I'm new over on the 996 forum, having sold my 993 C4S and now and working my way to acquiring a 996 C4S. The guys on the 993 forum were very helpful in making the leap with loads of advice. I wanted to ask a couple of questions as I search for a replacement: 1. Where can I find a listing of the options, and are the option codes listed on a sticker under the hood as the 993? 2. I am seeing many arctic silver, black and gray cars. What colors did the 996 come in? 3. I have seen the X50 performance option on a number of cars. Is this worth the premium? 4. I have seen a couple of tail pipe configurations - a flat-ish oval, and a merged twin pipe. Does the twin pipe signify the sports exhaust, or is this just a tail-pipe styling piece? As ever, I appreciate the help. Looking forward to joining the 996 ranks soon. Thanks, Nick

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Still not translated over from 993-spec to 996, so not quite on the terminology, however, so far, the "must-haves" options I am thinking about are:

renntech.org has the ordering guides for several year models. That gives all the options. 996's should have the option codes sticker under the hood.
Agree with DCP. The order guides provide options, colors, by year. The tail pipe configs you note are styling only. I have an '04 in Atlas and love it!! The 993 C4S is a great looking car, though.
Yes, the option codes will be listed under the boot. Arctic silver is the only color . Not worth it for me, but that was with the premium price on the new car (about $15K). Dunno what the premium is on a used. No, those are just the tips. Std is oval, optional twin tips. PSE has nothing to do with the tips. Good hunting!!
Thanks guys. I'll get the guides and start getting my head around the perfect spec. Still not translated over from 993-spec to 996, so not quite on the terminology, however, so far, the "must-haves" options I am thinking about are: PSM PCM - Phone & Sat Nav Sports Exhaust, plus twin pipe tips Bose Xenon lights Arctic Silver Black full leather interior I would be interested in feedback from the C4S community. I am now in UK and there seem to be a good supply of well optioned cars, so hopefully sourcing should be a reasonably achieveable task (and fun too). Please let me know if I am on the right track. Thanks, Nick
PSM is standard on all 996 C4S' as is the full leather interior. PSE sounds terrific and so does the Bose. Xenons are great and very hard to retrofit (expensive!) on a 996. I would also consider heated seats; really nice on those cold mornings. I really wanted to find one with PCM (Sat-Nav) too but couldn't; but I see that Porsche is no longer going to support software updates for the CD based systems. Many manufacturers are moving to a hard drive system for Nav, so DVD systems are also yesterdays technology. IMHO, I think that there is better value in getting a portable GPS like Garmin or Tom Tom and cheaper in the end to stay current with technology and mapping.
