Did some searching and didn't come up with a conclusion.
I replaced my
battery
and managed to set off the airbag light, also the car has a service now message on startup.
I have a generic OBD2 scan tool and can see live data stream but when I look at codes it just says error.
Looking at
Foxwell NT530
/Durametric and
iCarsoft POR V2.0
.
What's the general opinion.
None of them are really expensive, I just want the one that does the most and updates ofr free
Both are good. I own both the
NT530
for
BMW
/Mini and the
iCarsoft
for VW. Full disclosure, I just got my
Porsche
and haven't had a need yet for a
Porsche
one, but own both units currently. You can't go wrong with both. If you put a gun to my head and said PICK ONE OR DIE, I would lean toward
iCarsoft
by a tiny bit. Navigating seems ever so slightly more natural in the
iCarsoft
and the menus are a little bigger. I have to use my reading glasses on the
NT530
. The
iCarsoft
is not much larger but, I don't know the screen resolution but I have been able to squint and use it without driving glasses. Both have decent support, albeit
iCarsoft
seems more professional. I got support on the
NT530
from China, from one person direct email. It just seems like a smaller support department than
iCarsoft
, but a guy responded directly. So it really is like Coke and
Pepsi
...I think
iCarsoft
is
Coca Cola
,
NT530
is
Pepsi
and the other stuff you see at O'Reilly's is generic cola. I hope that helps. If I got a crazy good deal on the
NT530
, I would get another one for
Porsche
. If cost the same, I lean slightly to
iCarsoft
.
I havt the
ICARSOFT
PORII. Works very well, easy , fast. Great for quick checks and resets.
Just bought the
iCarsoft POR V2.0
and successfully reset the oil,
battery
change, and intermediate service very easily. I was a little nervous to start but all went well. No fault codes found so I’m happy. I have a
Boxster S
2013.
I forgot to add that I’ve not been able to look at overrevs with the POR V 2.0 as yet. Not sure if it does this if that’s on your list of things to check.
I have the
Foxwell NT530
and am happy with it but am not an advanced user. I reset oil change intervals and got a
DME
report with no problem.
Hmmm.... did I reply to you on FaceBook (the endless repeating question toilet of
Porsche
ownership.. but I digress..)
We have an entire forum dedicated to these sort of questions, and that's where this thread will be moved to as soon as I'm finished typing.
Buy the
Foxwell
. It's that simple - there are detailed writeups in the Diagnostics forum on why - but it's the one most people are buying, so if you are looking for support from other users - it's the one you want.
Meanwhile - check out the Diagnostics forum at:

Durametric for $150 shipped!
Durametric Diagnostic Tool | The Mart | The Porsche Club of America
That one is gone already LOL
Just ordered
Foxwell
with 2 Programs one for
Cayman
and one for the MB
Foxwell
now has a new touch-screen tool
NT710
which supposedly has all the capabilities of the
NT530
but a bigger screen and a friendlier interface. The
NT530
uses an ARM OS, the
NT710
uses Android 9.0. The
NT530
requires a hard-wire computer connection for updates, the
NT710
can establish a WiFi connection and update wirelessly.

How to Choose Between Foxwell NT530 and NT710?
.
I'm asking Foxwell for a loan of an NT710 to use for evaluation and a review here.. I haven't heard back from them yet. The NT710 is roughly $90 more than the NT530. It doesn't offer more capabilities than the NT530, but I've been assured by Foxwell that it does offer all the same capabilities as the NT530.
oooh, me likey! Yes, if you read my original post, my only small foible with the
NT530
was the screen size is a bit small and navigating was better with
iCarsoft
since I have both. I was just going to buy the
Porsche
software for the
Foxwell
, but maybe I wait and get whole new
NT710
for
Porsche
instead? I'll see if I can find some reviews.
I can vouch for the
iCarsoft POR V2.0
being very affordable and simple to use. If all you're looking to do is check scan codes and reset a couple things like oil change then it's a good choice. I believe it was $140 @ flat6.
How is the
NT710
test going?
Hasn't started yet - they stopped communicating about a month ago. They last said they were too busy with orders to follow up. I think I'll nudge them again. Thanks for reminding me.
