Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Turns out, I'm not as comfy as I'd like to be in my
Cayman
. I'd like to have a tiny bit more space to lean my seat back with the seat bottom all the way back.
Which brings me to my question. I currently have the standard
Cayman S
seat. Are there other seats that bolt in without modification that are still oem?
If no, any aftermarket options?
Even so, any modifications anyone has made?
Most aftermarket seats are a universal fitment with brackets, and there are brackets that can be purchased for these cars (or make your own).
But keep in mind that you'll be losing the bolster airbags if you go aftermarket, so you'll need to wire in a resistor to avoid the SRS light. You'll also need to transfer over the passenger weight sensor and if you have heated seats, you'll need to retrofit that.
If you want something that's
plug
and play, it'll have to be
Porsche
. Though I'm not sure if
Porsche
made anything more comfortable than the stock seats you have, most people opt for better support rather than more comfort. Perhaps the seats from another model could be retrofitted, though they may be too wide for the
Cayman
.
Recaro Sportster GT seats may be what you are looking for. As MyName said, the passenger weight sensor needs to be moved to the Recaro passenger seat to keep the dash light off. Also the back of the interior frame where the seat tilt knob is on the Recaro needs to be hammered out just a little to allow the seat to completely touch the motor interior cover. If you have fit problems, this may not work as there is only so much space in our tiny cockpits. The seats look and fit fantastically though and can be ordered with heat.
Suncoast
Porsche
has heated
GT3
leather bucket seats that fit your OEM bill, however, the last time I looked at their offerings, they were above $12,000 for the airbag model that plugs in the
Cayman
seat wiring harness. The beauty of these seats is that unlike bucket seats, these are adjustable with the tilt knob and if you get the rails that adjust the seat height, you can fit a longer body into the
Cayman
without knee issues getting into and out of the car.
Hi Apex1,
Oddly enough I have been looking at the Recaro Sportser CS seats and it looks like they fir very nice. How is the entry getting in over the side bolster ? The only reason I as is when I test drove a
GT4
with Carbon seats I hated getting in the car as you had to squat down and then lift up your back side to get in while trying not to hit the roof.
Last question is this you car with the seats in and if so what brackets did you use as I know there was a boxter that had the Recaro's in it that the shop made custom brackets for it to get it low.

This is Recaro's picture in a 991. Our car's are smaller and need the inner frame hammered out a little to get enough room for the tilt knob to clear all the way back. Also, you will need the passenger seat pressure pad to be removed from your OEM seat and inserted into the Recaro's to prevent the passenger seat light from illuminating. So, find an installer who know's what they are doing to get this job done correctly. I have long legs and these bolsters work for me. They are much better than bucket seats, which I have a very difficult time exiting the car. My car is lowered by Ohlin coilovers, so its very important that I have space between the steering wheel and the bolster to get out. My installer also is putting in the two additional harness straps between the legs, which will be removable for daily drivability.
For what it's worth, our cars do not have the typical air bladder that sit under the passenger seat cushion. It has 4 weight sensors that sit between the seat and the rails on each corner. While you can swap these over to your new seats, you may need to get them re-calibrated to the static weight of the new seat.
That also leaves your stock passenger seat incomplete, which only matters if you were planning on selling it.
Or you can get the software update for having a key switch to turn the passenger airbag on and off, which
Porsche
uses with their child car seat package.

Not only that issue but they also have an seat shop cut and stitch a hole for the two additional web harness between the legs. Attached is a

I custom ordered a pair of white seats with black stitching from Corbeau with a 6-month build time. RRX model with 5th slot. $1169. here's a photo of the black/red RRX set in my other car. The whites are going to look radical in my 06 Carrara White
Cayman S
. there are no photos of an RRX anywhere because I don't think many people know you can custom order.
