I just wanted to post an update on the
Wilwood
hitch
as I just bought one and installed it.
1. The person running the new company - Sport Tows - Is helpful and very responsive.
2. The
hitch
was shipped quickly and packaged beautifully.
3. It is really well made and finished.
4. Instructions are excellent.
Observations during installation:
1. The rear bumper is VERY easy to remove and install. I had zero problems working by my self.
2. Rather than using the template to mark the holes, it was much easier to c-clamp the
hitch
in place and use a center punch. Buy a cheap set from Traver's Tool - It's worth having!
3. The kit includes "fish wire" to thread the bolts. Even wrapping them tightly in to the threads it was hard to pull them though the drilled holes. I found it easier to use it to pull the bolt in to the hole, then with my finger holding the bolt through the large hole in the support wiggle the wire off. Then push the bolt through with my finger and put the wire back on to hold it in place.
4. The heavy duty bumper supports were just a little too long. The square tube past the vertical bolt channel. I had to grind off a little bit and repaint it.
While I was in there, I put in a Tekonsha trailer light controller, back up camera and rear speakers since the car had none and I had a pair on the shelf. Taking apart the plastics in the rear is a real PITA, but gets easier when you know where to yank and where to pry.
981
or 987? I was under the impression the
hitch
is only available for the
981
, not the 987. Am I wrong, I hope!?
ialevy, What type of Tekonsha trailer light controller did you use? On my
2012 Cayman S
, I'm trying to install a Tekonsha Zero Contact Interface Universal ModuLite, that uses current sensors on the taillight, brake light, and left and right turn signal wires. It doesn't splice into the wires, but clips on each wire without cutting into them. However, it is giving me fits. Taillight, and turn signal wires work, but when I when I hookup the brake light sensor and go through the learning process, all the lights come on. Did you have any special installation issues with your trailer light controller? Thanks!
